Spoken like my Financial Advisor who grabs me 7-8% on returns while the S&P showing GAINZ
7-8 forever is great. SnP been doing 20s though ha.
Tricky
I’ve been doing north of 10% for 11 years
Sell it. Ends badly
S&P 500 has returned 11% annually over last 15 years, so maybe 8% real returns after inflation. Clear risk in any given year. A more balanced portfolio would probably be closer to 3-4% real returns. And adjust the endowment and payouts accordingly.
What’s the historical record for the UVA endowment? I can find it crushed it last year, but can’t easily find historical data.
Harvard’s endowment performance hovers between 5-8% depending on how long you look (below S&P 500)
So 10 percent over past 10 is massive underperform. Any one of us with some kind of account could have just bot SPY and crushed it past 10 years
Good lord leave it to a UVA board to ruin a forum talking football by making it all brainiac nerdy.
Best financial move I ever did was turn it over to my FA and check in with him twice a year. If he screws up it’s his ass. Otherwise Call me when I’m 58 and ready to retire to watch my kids play ball.
Someone tell me the rate on return of keeping Armstrong for the extra year. How bout that?
What risk free rate are you assuming?
Also I forget who said it but our American universities are basically hedge funds with sports teams attached these days
True … but I did say north of 10% …. I’ll leave it there as to how far north.
And I’m not an expert or anything but enjoy researching it and moving funds around periodically.
Oh snap this is the football thread isnt it
Rosters for the blue-white game this weekend. If I was near C-Ville I would go. Hope other folks get to check it out!
Sorry but basketball is more than fine. $10 million for Arch then $1 million each to 30 different 4 and 5 star lineman, receivers, and defensive players
Yep, UVA endowment went up 50% last year from investments.
Yeah I mean I think he should continue to play *both sports BUT he seems to have at minimum a future in baseball which will pay MUCH more, less injuries, but longer seasons…so he will be like the rest of the working world.
Kurt Benkert is making more money holding a clipboard than 99% of ball players.
Play out football as long as possible. Kyler and Russell can attest to that.
But I agree baseball is likely the only professional sports path for Jay.
I actually really enjoy listing to Coach Elliott speak. Very honest but thoughtful, and just has a good vibe. Liked what he had to say about relations with faculty and such.
Jay should walk on to the basketball team for just a day just to play in the softball game. No idea what kind of a hitter he is, but he’s got to be better than anyone on the basketball team (maybe Shed still has a good swing from his HS days, but a guy that tall has a really hard time swinging up on a ball.
