May be copium - but Iām definitely coming around on the timing of this if heās going to retire.
Team knows Sanchez (and presumably likes him) and what weāll be running doesnāt change.
Sanchez gets this year with a relatively nice roster (assuming no rotational players txfer before the season) - if it goes well then great! If not then we get a head start on coaching search for next year.
Only thing better may have been Tony staying for the goodbye tour this year - but he was never going to do that.

This is mostly bad if the players feel bamboozled, victims of a bait and switch, and thus have coachability / buy in issues over the season, especially if we hit a rough spot.

I think the abruptness and randomness of it all has helped to lessen the meltdown.
Had this happened after the CSU game I bet it would have been 10x worse.

Technically, a head coach leaving opens up a 30 day transfer window for the players. Obviously, the options would be very limited but itās something that could happen.
I know for a fact - 100% - Jwilly didnāt know anything about this and his entire crew is stressed, he wasnāt told in advance. Donāt know what happens next, but doesnāt look pretty. It is what it is, bad look for Tony.

Dawn Staley should be next head UVA Menās basketball coach. She is the best coach in college basketball. Her teams play incredibly intelligent team defense, and she knows how to recruit. She is the total package.
Might have to do some relationship mending, but hopefully Carla could do it.
