🏀 Tony Bennett Retires, Ron Sanchez to be Interim HC

How kind of you . I’m not being a dick, just mentioning that it’s here too already. Or anyone can go to VirginiaSportsTV YouTube and find it

Oh this is a different video than the YouTube one. It’s the Zoom recording. Or maybe it’s just unedited?

Hmm yeah, that one is 10 minutes longer than the one on YouTube

Hey StLouHoo, SeattleHoo and I shared a chat space together yesterday to discuss the current space and imma put that up in a Cuts space early next week.

Now thats an interesting crew right there.

Edit: fraternity brothers?

Nope. STL started writing for the site this offseason and SH helped me with my video editing set up when I started out. Plus, they both did Hoos Place together for years before I started writing so already knew each other well.

I hope we aim big, but I think there’s 0 chance a sitting NBA coach takes a college job. This sounds like those delusional Duke fans who thought Quin Snyder would leave the NBA to take over for Coach K.

NBA coaches get to have their summers off. College coaches travel and recruit all summer. They have to pull double duty as coach and GM. They have to gladhand donors to raise money. And their livelihoods depend on them successfully navigating the whims of 16 year olds to join the program, the best ones just for a year.

Tony Bennett made about 4 mil. Will Hardy makes about 4 mil and Billy Donovan 6 mil. Neither is gonna take a paycut to do more work at a lower level.

I can’t even think of the last sitting NBA coach who left for a college job. Rick Pitino?

Donovan is almost certainly getting fired. Hardy probably won’t be unless things completely unravel so he won’t jump unless the writing is on the wall.

Pitino and Calipari both came back to college after NBA stints, as did Larry Brown (who made the switch multiple times). In Calipari’s case, admittedly, he was only an assistant when he came back, his head coach stint with the Nets having ended the season prior.

Happens in the NFL as well; Nick Saban left the Dolphins in the middle of the NFL regular season to take over Alabama.

I’m not saying it’s likely, or common, only that there is some limited precedent.

And then there was this from that paragon of rectitude and virtue, Bobby Petrino:

Utah isn’t trying to win really. He was handpicked by Ainge. His job is safe

He actually probably won too many games last year

In case y’all didn’t see the news:

Holy crap. His poor family.

Some nice comments here from Titus and new fake Tate. Don’t think they watched the retirement press conference so are a bit more critical of timing.

Eh, you can have watched the presser and still be a little critical of the timing.

Agreed. But they seemed to think it was purely about getting Sanchez in and that there wouldn’t be a national search, no real mention of other stuff.

Edit: they do go on to talk about NIL negotiating and the current bevy of used car salesmen coaches.
