Haven’t really seen a name in the portal that seems like a clear fit, other than Tre Mitchell and Kellen Grady, though literally every school in the country will be pursuing them and I have no idea if we’ll even be involved.
Usually there are guys we missed out of HS that pop back up, like Key, Nichols, Hauser, Gill, Murphy, etc. but not seeing those guys in the portal yet. Some weak connections as HGN mentioned, but nothing much to work off of.
Unless we hit a homerun with a transfer, I’d rather shift attention to recruiting. Give me Nunez, Brown, and Traudt in 2022 and let the young guys on the roster get some minutes and start developing.
On an unrelated note, I have been the first person to write off Efton Reid as I had always assumed he never really wanted to go to UVA. Given all that has occurred and the fact that he is still uncommitted and his list hasn’t changed much, I wonder if the staff would take another look there. I don’t love the fit from a positional perspective, but after seeing us struggle so mightily near the rim, I’ve come around a bit. I know he’s talked about G league but the timeline might prevent him from going that route unless he’s 100% committed to it. If he goes to college, OSU and UVA seem to be his top 2 schools, until he casts a wider net. Wouldn’t shock me if there was mutual interest in him staying close to home for 1-2 years.

I would absolutely love to land Efton
Efton is not coming to UVA. Need to just remove his name from the board. Not a fit with what his circle wants.
I wonder if UNC might finally extend him an offer given transfer talks. Think that could be a landing place for him if he goes the college route.

And yet we signed 2 of the top 5 transfers each of the last 2 seasons. And I would say Gill was the transfer of the year when he came to the Hoos.

@HoozGotNext when Gill and Braxton transfered in was it a recruiting provess after they entered the vaunted portal or somewhat pre arranged? Seems like those two left schools with sole intention on being at Uva
I concur. Seems our best chances with transfers are guys we recruited in the first place. At least at high level transfers.

Key was semi pre arranged, just in that he reached out to Kyle Guy and got the ball rolling. It was mostly over when his name became public. Villanova could have had a say I think, but passed on him.
I wasn’t as plugged in back when Gill transferred, been a minute lol On the surface, that was a real recruitment. But obviously we had ties through Akil, same high school. Roy Williams gave him an ultimatum, like 24 hours to commit or something lol Which he refused. Ended up naming a final 2 I think it was, UVA and Ohio State, visited both.

We wasted Gill here. If only he had touched the ball the last 12 minutes of the Syracuse debacle.
Still my favorite player at UVA. So I am biased. 
That is correct! Was kinda shocked that we beat UNC. Only really remember beating UNC for Gill, Ralph, Curtis Staples, Willie Dersch, Melvin Whitaker, and Brent Dabbs.
Didn’t UNC offer McKoy as well?

According to UNC site, Dawson Garcia from Marquette is expected to hit the portal but will test the draft waters first. Figured he would be an NBA prospect. 19 year old power forward hiting 35% from 3 and putting up like 13 pts a game.

Yea Cory could have gone anywhere as well. Dont remember how much he talked to UNC I was just workin on my game then so I could pretend to keep up with him when he came to Virginia

Apparently, they recruited him some prior to his commitment to Marquette. Also, there are some insiders on their board who feel Kessler will look at us.
