Fresh, I even remember reading about your commitment in the Roanoke Times! Thanks Doug Doughty! I’m 54 but do actually remember these moments!

According to an insider on the unc board who is connected to the Kessler family and has been sending warning signs since December regarding Kessler’s family frustrations, Its Gonzaga, Michigan, and Us. Of course nothing direct or confirmed.

Not sure why Jason would want to risk going to GMU while the administration is in transition. No one is quite sure how things will eventually settle in Fairfax. There’s somewhat of a tug-a-war going on among the BOV, donors & business community. Things are far different on campus than when Jim Larranaga was there, who had a president in Alan Mertan that was all-in for supporting the basketball program and most sports.
Mason will always be a school with tremendous potential to have a special year or so because of its location and size. However, at this time, I’m not seeing the type of major support needed to permit GMU to become attractive enough to attract the talent needed to compete for conference titles & consistent NCAAT berths.
The facilities are D+/C- level at best. Maryland and Georgetown are struggling to remain relevant with a quantum leap above in facilities and revenue. Hope Jason thinks long and hard before taking the leap if Mason is the destination.

I think Gonzaga is a major player. Thats where the rumors started. I wouldnt be surprised if they were the ones to get things rolling after hearing Kessler’s family complaints. Gonzaga is going to let Chet play the 3/4

I won’t speculate to what extent, but I’m positive there was some sort of back channel communication around the Nichols transfer.

That one kills me when I hear his name. The 2017 team looks so much different with Nichols playing. Kid was the best big UVa has had since Burrough.

Gill and Nolte had combined to go 8-14 with 12:00 remaining in the game and got 2 touches combined in the last 12 minutes - and got 2 points on 2 possessions. Everyone else got 6 points on 16 possessions.
Why Michigan? They have a premier inside player in Hunter Dickinson, unless he’s turning pro? If Dickinson returns, it’s a similar situation to UNC this year.
Kessler would be a nice fit for UVA. Allows McKoy to play a more complimentary role at the 4, brings Kadin into the rotation to develop naturally, and gives the offense a much better floor balance. However, Tony can’t play both Kihei & Reece together as much with that inside presence. Would need the 2 & 3 spots to be effective shooters to open up the floor to take advantage of what is inside.
Thought the weakness of this year’s team was the unbalanced floor on offense, combined with a defense that couldn’t make enough key stops to offset it.

I believe Hunter is a 20 year old freshmen so he might be trying to bounce to the NBA as soon as he can?
I would try to get one more big (Kessler/Dawson/maybe try to rekindle things with Efton) and then also try to get Jonas Aidoo on a redshirt. He was already headed to Marquette with a stacked front court so he must know he’s a work in progress/needs to add muscle and would be a good addition to our 2022 class backing up Kadin. Ive also been on the Aidoo train for a while. All of this would let Kadin develop more and take over in 2022.
The argument for Michigan or Gonzaga is kinda the opposite of here. Both of those schools (especially Gonzaga) have shown they run a system that’ll let Kessler do what he wants to do on offense and will develop him. On the other hand his path to PT at either of those places is more clearly blocked than it would be here (Chet is a tremendous player, but you are what you can defend, and there’s no world in which Few is going to let Chet consistently guard an athletic 3).
At UVA, especially if Murphy stays in the draft, it’ll be really hard for him not to walk into 25+ mpg. However, the question would be how excited he is about Huff’s development path and usage. If the real issue was PT, then maybe we have a shot (especially if Murphy goes) but if it was more about how he was used, well, Gonzaga’s gonna be hard to beat for that.
Edit - I will say that I tremendously appreciate Hauser, and he was the clear offensive leader of the team, it took a long while for his defense to get up to even passable. I would not be excited about the same thing with Kessler.
