Transfer wish list 2022-2023

With all the data available in the last year or so, and all the data nerds out there, I’m surprised there hasn’t been more analysis of transfers, 5th year usage, etc. The stuff I’ve seen (not much) has been pretty shallow and not terribly insightful.

Given the critical importance of the Portal to programs - Pitt and Wake would be absolute crap without it - you would expect deep analysis products to pop up.

Just looked up Pepper. Scorer no doubt averaging 22 ppg, but only shooting 34% from 3. Granted he shoots a good amount of em and he’s almost 80% from FT line so has good form. Probably just being main guy and keyed on all the time so would do well with us as he’d get much better looks. I see he’s from Washington though, so guessing he’s gonna be a Zag if they want him. Ledlum can’t shoot a lick looks like. 31% from 3 and 62% from FT line. Meh.

I have a feeling we’re going to add a really big transfer piece this offseason. Someone we’re all really stoked about. That’s all, carry on

Zach Edey is gonna be a beast for us once he gets that hard hedge timing down.

Hard pass on Edey. Purdue has lost 3 out of the last 5. Don’t need that losing mentality on our roster.

Ok, with him being a VA kid, this is definitely one worth watching if AF doesn’t take a 5th year.

i don’t think uva boards can handle tony benching Edey because he can’t hedge.

Obviously not at the same level, but the way Gibson Jimerson moves reminds me of Kyle Guy. Obviously not quite as fast or as unique in contorting his body in the air on threes, but the finishes closer to the hoop give me some Guy vibes.

Also, while the numbers that attempt to measure total contribution (e.g. PRPG!) are obviously way better for Guy, so many of the others like shooting percentages, foul rates, free throw rate, etc. are eerily similar… I am in on Gibson Jimmerson. Also because his name is Gibson Jimmerson.

He’s giving me the Gibby Jimmys in the best way possible.

This is the kind of player I prefer over Kon.

Also lol at Jamie Shaw for stirring the pot for now the third time (3rd article, this one bringing up more mid major names to poach).

Good shooter but also more mobile and more size for the 4 spot (Kon can’t defend the perimeter at the college level)

This kid on the list is from Wisconsin and same aau program as Kon. Would be a nice comparison but this kid is also a little more mobile (kon better from 3)

Wow they puttin up points man

Ole Miss coach fired. Jaemyn Brakefield at the 4?

Reece McKneely Dunn Brakefield Kadin?

Edit: maybe not

Has the lowest +/- on the team but is shooting above 50% from field and 35% from 3. Would be a Jayden/BVP type forward.

I was impressed by Brakefield in his few minutes for Duke.

re: Duke and Scheyer’s change of philosophy, I suspect trying to keep guys like him around would be one change we might see.

I haven’t paid any attention since he left for the SEC but he’s at least superficially the type of bouncy 4ish / maybe 5ish that I had heard we might be looking for.

Whether he fits our roster plans, I don’t know. I will leave that Tony and staff and criticize whatever choice they make.

Also, he’s from Jackson MS, so he may want to stay in the area…

Edit - 2nd look: I remember him as the bouncy big, but he’s got decent offensive stats. Could be a nice blend… but also takes time away from Bond, Traudt, Dunn, Buchanan (but maybe that’s a good thing?). Pros and cons. I just think that one of these years we need to be intentional about developing young talent …
