Football threads are WAY worse lol
I’m not the least bit worried about our class being really good at the college level but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried that next year will entail a frustrating lack of playing time and development because we have older players. These fears are matched by my other fears that Kihei and/or Kody returns. I want a clean slate with all seniors graduating
Football threads are worse, but that said, at some points our defense became so comical that they were actually quite funny. Once you accepted you were watching something truly historically awful, it was kind of fun.
Lol not to call you out too much BDragon, but if we were talking about Bronco, you would be letting the shots fly, and then *you would be the one exclaiming that this is a message board and that’s what the purpose is etc. etc.
They are hot garbage too and I say that as the person who claims soul responsibility for Bronco stepping down ,(you’re welcome)
Yeah, I’d be fine with being bad next year if it felt like we were building towards something. Bottom third of the ACC but all the young guys getting time? I’m here for it. But if it’s just the same guys playing 30+ min a game while the young dudes scrap for a min here or there and then all those old dudes graduate after we get like a 9 seed and flame out in the first round, we’ll that’ll be a lot harder for me. Although I would enjoy making the tourney again.
Amen, it’s getting easier and easier to stay away. It’s a game. No one, other than a few here, have no idea what is being seen and why certain kids play and certain kids don’t. And those who know will never say.
It’s been a rough year sure but I have an issue with some of the comments made about kids playing a game. They hear it, no doubt about it.
You’re not. Calling me me so no worries. I flamed Bronco for 6 yrs and failed to give me something to buy into. I’ll flame CTB for a lot mainly the struggles recruiting. But I also give him a break because of what he has done.
All that said I also take none of this personally and at the end of the day my day is rarely made or broken by the results of a game played by teenagers
Mckneeley will not be kept off the floor. Traudt too.
Kadin is still pretty young and he has gotten a lot of run in his 2 years.
Our current young guys just aren’t that good.
Lol 9 seed? Nyuck nyuck nyuck!
Oh well on to Ozark!…This ain’t my lyfe!
I will say, this I broadly agree with. I can get pretty negative toward the big picture, and I have no problem stating where I might disagree with Tony as he gets paid literally millions of dollars to take on the responsibility, but I really try and stay away from saying things like “X player is awful”. Maybe “I don’t understand why Y player isn’t getting a chance to play over X player”, but the straight up attacks on dudes aren’t great and I think we’d all do better to avoid them in the heat of the moment.
I wonder what Sean Miller is up to?..
There probably was no scenario today for UVA to win if we’re being honest. State shot out of their minds. There’s gonna be occasional games like that on the road. It’s why you can’t drop the games at home like they’ve already done.
Kind of the same thing I said after the UNC game but I’m disappointed with the lack of resistance once the game got away. It’s been a trademark of Bennett teams over the years, is they always respond even if it’s not enough. Not questioning their effort exactly because they do play hard consistently. But they seem to struggle to regain focus when things start going badly and it snowballs out of of control.
I mean… we shot nearly 60% from 3 and lost by 14. We shot very well today as well
Last thing I’ll say before I go off and do something exciting like cook some spaghetti, but that’s kind of bummed me out too. And I might be making this up, but I still feel like it has to do with player leadership on the floor. In the old days, Malcolm, London, Isaiah, Ty, or Kyle (and even Mamadi in his last season) would huddle up the guys on the floor and tell guys what needed to happen, hype each other up, keep up the fight. When things start going badly now, it just feels like everybody slumps their shoulders and walks over the bench waiting for Tony to do it.
I think one of the most damning things Williford said about this team in his preseason podcast was that they were struggling to get players to take on leadership and be vocal. He himself noted that player-led teams are so much better than coach-led teams.
Anyway, I probably made that up. Rough evening, but let’s hope they bounce back. I’d love an NIT invite still. Think that’d be really cool.
I’ll take responsibility for that. I’m not a fan of Kody’s game but I definitely let my heat of the moment frustration get the best of me. Won’t happen again
Yeah to an extent I agree with you about lacking dogs. That’s a glaring weakness for the last two years for sure, but our best teams could also get stops when we needed them. Things are so bad defensively these last two years that when teams get hot on us there’s just no hope that we’ll be able to tighten up like we need to defensively. This year it’s especially bad because we can’t score in bunches to make up any type of significant deficit
Yeah, great teams have elite offense and defense. Good teams have an elite offense OR an elite defense. Bad teams have neither. And that’s where we find ourselves somehow.
Just kind mind boggling that three years removed from a championship we have the 71st defense according to Kenpom (75th according to Torvik). I knew Bennett teams would go up and down offensively and that’s what would separate our elite teams from our good teams, but I never thought I’d see a Bennett defense get to this point. Strange.
Hoos allowed state to shoot above 60% from the field and deep. Not gonna find a ton of success just trying to our gun teams. Esp when no part of the program is built for that.
Yeah I agree, my point is that it wasn’t just “oh they got lucky and made a ton of 3s”. We also made a bunch of 3s
