With heartfelt gratitude, a Happy Veterans’ Day to all here at LRA who served.
Awesome! Thank you. Am going to dig into that later.
It’s sort of silly to me that this is regularly tracked - would be easy enough, not a ton of offensive fouls. I’d guess most of ours are illegal screens.
Would be good for officiating as well.
I don’t think drawing charges has ever been an emphasis for us. Like it is in the no middle. Sometimes the 3MW guys get confused between the pack line and the no middle.
If that IMac play was the right call (blocking foul) under the new block/charge rule, then the rule change has gone too far. Idk where to draw the line but it felt like Mac was in position for forever. But it is what it is, I’ll get used to it. Goodbye stocky dudes who plant their feet, hello bouncy dudes who go for the block.
It was not the right call - not even close.
Rule used to be having established legal guarding position before the shooter is airborne. Now it’s before he plants his last foot to go up.
As the help defender right?
think just the WAY he got hit influenced the ref there. the way the Tarleton player hit him wasn’t as forceful, didn’t knock IMac straight back. Really it was more the Tarleton player’s momentum pulling him forward into IMAC after he released, vs. bulling right through him on the way up.
agreed it wasn’t the right call, but i can see how the way it looked made the ref think block vs. charge
I wish there were more no-calls. I don’t get too involved in the rulebook or whatever, but not every piece of contact has to be some call. (this obviously has limits, too. Refs can’t let stuff get out of hand)
As a soccer ref… I understand this… what you really have to do is remain consistent throughout the game. If you call it tight at the beginning, you call it tight at the end… loose at the beginning, loose at the end.
Baseball strike zones from umps changing over the different innings infuriates me… if the high strike is a strike in the 1st inning… it needs to still be called in the 8th and 9th.
Consistency by refs in every sport… that’s all I ask for.
However… when you are said ref… you need to have balls of steel.
I have never once seen one good referee in soccer. But i have never seen you ref so…
I can get down with this
You would probably not like me. Haha! Everyone hates soccer refs… when I’m not reffing I’m not a fan of them either… it’s so tough since the field is so big and stupid things are happening everywhere that fans can point to you being dumb for not calling.
Plus… close offsides calls has been scientifically proven to be impossible by SCIENCE!
Summary points
To apply the offside rule correctly in a football game, the referee must be able to keep in his visual field at least five objects at the same time—two players of the attacking team, the last two players of the defending team, and the ball
This is beyond the capacity of the human eye, which may explain why so many offside decisions are controversial
The use of modern technology such as freeze frame television to aid referees’ decisions is necessary for the offside rule to be applied correctly
Off sides!
Correct - primary defender still is just establish LGP in front of the opponent prior to going airborne.
Which is why there should be no offsides in any game without replay.
Maybe it wouldn’t be so tough to see the field if you took a moment to pull your head out of your ass, ref!
I’ve unfortunately heard that yelled at me in at least 3 languages.
I just want the help defenders to have to make a legitimate attempt at defense!! If he’s standing there grabbing his crotch it should either be no call or a block. Charge shouldn’t even be a possibility without a legitimate effort to play defense
I agree to your point based on the science… but not to the point based on the game of soccer…
If you don’t have offsides, you just park your striker in front of the goalkeeper… central defenders would have to stay home and the 6-yard box would just be full of players… the game would be dumb.
It’s the reason for the offsides rule in hockey as well. Without it, the goalmouth would always be clogged and the game would get bogged down. Hockey would also be dumb.
Why was the three point line in basketball added? To unclog the key and open up the game.
my conclusion… offsides impossible to call without VAR, but also cannot be gotten rid of due to the issue of a clogged 18 yard box. Clogging the scoring area in any sport is dumb.
