Thatās the thing though, thereās not too many guys who fit that criteria in the portal and even less who will be available to us. The vast majority of the names entering are actively looking to either jump into a starting spot or enter an open QB competition, and weāre not the kind of program who can just bring in a quality option thatāll be willing to sit the bench and be an āin case of emergencyā guy. Realistically the kinda player weād land would likely be the same level of player as a Brosterhous (who was actually a fairly accomplished QB in the state of NC even if he is still a walk-on).
Iām fine with our 3rd string being a 1st year QB if it comes down to that, especially since our staff has so far shown an ability to identify some pretty solid talent at that position.
Exactly any kid entering the portal is doing it to play not hold signs. A vet Muskett a 2nd yr AC and a 1st yr is about all you can ask for. Look at FSU, and Utah they had the same situation this yr

Iām trying to keep track of portal entries that are from VA and/or guys who I remember us being involved with out of HS. I know we offered Smothers but the competition was too much to overcome at the time, maybe itāll be a little easier this go around.
Foston and Cody Brown are both in the transfer portal, and Perris is graduating/hopefully doing well in his recovery. Itās not a terrible situation for next season but I do agree we could use another guy to add a little more to the room. Preferably someone with homerun speed, Pettaway and Smothers would both fit the bill in that regard.
The RB room isnāt bad. But i think we could use another body or 2 especially if one is a gamebreaker with speed or can become a pass catching option.
