UVA Is Out of ACCT After Positive Covid Test

If safety is the primary issue, then why do the protocols allow for a contagious person to be transported hundreds of miles away? The jurisdiction in which the case is discovered is far more important for preventing the spread than where the person lives.

I think there is a lot of bullshit in the protocols. The NCAA’s record of oversight is not inspiring. Again, were any sanctions for Alabama or Nick Saban when he coached a game after a positive test three days earlier?

My real point is that it would be unfair and unjust, if Kansas is allowed to bully its way into the tournament while some functionary within the NCAA, ACC, UVA, or Albemarle County is allowed to end the season because “they have a say.”

I think local government would love to hose UVA on this

I have a lot of feelings about all this, but I will say again, think we should really wait and see how things play out by 11am tomorrow before we assume anyone is pushing for any specific thing. There’s no value in condemning whoever before anything has even happened or before we have any info.

Isn’t 11pm tmrw the key time, not am?

You’re probably right. I’ve lost track of all the times. Although I’ve finally understood the difference between tomorrow’s deadline and Monday’s

Billas just said quarantine started in Greensboro and health officials ok’d bus back to Charlottesville. Decision to play likely to come down to local officials not ncaa. UVA better be putting their full weight behind this and leaning on the Governor

Tony could use his megaphone to push to play, although I’m not sure it’s in his nature to ask officials to bend rules. It’s amazing how regional this is.

Out of curiosity, what would happen if we traveled to Indy and ignored the local officials?

Relying on the VA government to make the right decision here is the equivalent of relying on Salt to hit the 3 free throws vs Auburn…:grimacing:

Hoping for the best.

Ask Kansas

Kansas is a way more open state than Virginia is. I doubt their team would get held back at all by any local authorities.

Very different local government for Kansas, I assume

I feel pretty hopeful we’ll have Hoos to root for this week. Would be a lousy career move for any local public official to ruin an NCAA Tournament appearance. Plus it’s not like an ordinary person leaving quarantine. They’ll just be going into a new bubble. Common sense should prevail. The other issue is they still need to pass tests in the meantime. They’ve all presumably been around an actual positive case. One more could make the whole argument moot.

I know, I was kidding. State and local leaders don’t give me the warm and fuzzies.

True. On the tests, we can assume everybody else tested negative today and yesterday so fingers crossed. Two down, five to go.

If the players are isolated from one another starting today, or at least groups are isolated from other groups, would a new positive test kill us? Could we just leave the positives in Charlottesville as long as there’s 7 days of no contact between anyone who is positive and the guys we send?

Why would one more positive test be damning? Because everyone would then presumably be contact traced and not have 7 days to pass tests?

NCAA could have held it in Florida issued no guidelines, and none of this would matter (I’m not advocating for this).

It does make it fundamentally unfair. Jay, Sam, and Woldo are going to lose money if they don’t play.

Could have it here in Texas. Governor Abbott declared COVID over, lol.

It’s not necessarily a matter of bending rules. There are typically gray areas in how you interpret rules. It may be more a matter of advocating for your interpretation of the rules rather than asking for the rule to be ignored or “bent.”
