another year of injury risk, and how often does a player improve monumentally between 3rd and 4th year in terms of pro prospects?
The only reason his stock dipped was because of the injury. If he’s healthy he’s gone.

I am with you. But if he goes he goes I guess
I still think Armaan comes back
Dante, Armaan, IMac, Dunn, Shed (or portal Mamadi)
Portal guard, Traudt, Bond, Gertrude, Buchanan
So, yea, if Reece goes we’re gonna have an active spring with transfers, late bloomers, 24 reclasses
I’m probably in an even smaller minority. I think Reece probably stays and Armaan probably goes. But I’m not putting money on either of those propositions.
That’s a really good lineup still. I expect 2nd year McKneely to be similar to 2nd year Guy/Jerome. Maybe that’s too high of an expectation but I think next year he’ll know he’s one of the top 2 offensive options and put up big numbers
If Reece goes will be VERY interesting to see how the transfer market plays out. We’ll need another ball handler and I’d like them to aim high, treating Dante as a backup option. Get a plug and play starter to bridge the gap to Gertrude. Shouldn’t be a hard sell with Reece and Kihei leaving (in that scenario)
Yea I think Reece is one of those cases where it’s more about whether he is good enough to make an NBA roster next year. Draft status probably won’t improve much but he could conceivably need another year to be ready to actually play in the league. If that’s the evaluation the NIL money will probably matter in a 4th year in college vs G League for next year decision
FWIW Reece moved down 26 spots to 61st on NBADraft.net’s top 100 board update seven days ago. Also was nowhere to be seen in their mock draft.
I don’t necessarily expect him back but also don’t think it’s as cut and dry he’s 100% going pro as others may feel. Maybe it starts to trend more that way now that he’s seemingly fully healthy, but a surefire 1st round grade probably doesn’t happen this year unless he starts to become way more assertive offensively.
Not sure if this has been noted already but looks like our computer rankings are getting close to each other. 10th in KenPom, 13th on Torvik, and 14th in the NET this morning
Not a big fan of nbadraft.net. Great URL and that’s it. They lose their analyst every couple years to a better gig, just as they’re getting the hang of doing it
Fwiw, thinking of Wasserman who’s now at Bleacher report. He’s got Reece at 48, if you want to make it a triumvirate.
Just underlining the point - this “Reece is a first rounder” chatter is 100% Givony
The coverage has been on a bit of a decline, but they did a decent job last year. For a free site they’re still fairly accurate.
I don’t think Ty was on draft radars at this point. And TMIII was probably in a similar spot as Reece is now.
I’ve said it before but UVA guys pick up steam closer to the draft and through the workouts. When people aren’t just looking at counting stats and pre-season hype, and where they can excel in scrimmages outside of our offense.
Reece will be gone after this year. Weak draft class is just another sign pointing to making the jump this year.
I may be wrong but I think Ty was very much on NBA radars after the summer before his 3rd year. Obviously played himself up a bunch of spots during the season for sure. @Marktykobe ?
Ty had draft buzz before the natty season. He had a good showing at one of the offseason camps, CP3 one I think?
This
Oh yeah to be clear I’m talking buzz from the writers and these mock drafts.
I don’t recall seeing Ty in them until February but I could be wrong.
Fwiw, Jan 29 2019, vecenie has Dre at 6 and Ty at 34. Mock draft 1.0 for that year. I’ll see if he has an earlier big board
45 in the preseason big board (Nov 2018)
So he was definitely in the conversation early on
Wow. He was pretty close on both. Really close even without knowing what happened in April
lol the replies on this from UNC fans who haven’t won at JPJ in two decades are absolutely hilarious
