🏀 UVA women's basketball 2023- 2024

Really lackadaisical. Doesn’t matter today, I guess. And you can tell there’s no energy in the building (maybe 100 fans total?). But I hope we practice with more energy than this.

lol at the announcer pulling out Random Cory Facts. Doesn’t work without a straight man

Why was Sam Brunelle playing in the late fourth quarter of a 20 point blow out win? Just seems like a poor choice given her injury history (and the fact she was literally just injured last game)

The announcer made it a point to say there was a huge UVA fan contingent at some point in the first half… i guess huge is relative.

I guess they were on the near side that we couldn’t see. Still, a quiet gym.

Official attendance of 387. Which is fewer people than some weddings I’ve been to.

54 in the initial NET rankings, not too bad. It’ll come down to how we handle the ACC gauntlet.

Notre Dame 5
NC State 9
Louisville 18
Duke 24
Miami 30
VT 32
Syracuse 36
FSU 51
Georgia Tech 53
Hoos 54
UNC 55
BC 118
Clemson 130
Wake 149
Pitt 180

We’re 6-2, if we were to win these next three OOC games and sweep the bottom 4 ACC teams (we play each only once), that would get us to 13 wins. How many wins is our minimum to maybe make the NCAAT? 18?

Not a lot of margin for error, but there’s a path. We certainly have plenty of opportunities for statement wins.

I would say so, as that would be a 9-9 ACC record. I feel like .500 in conference is a must, despite how tough it is at the top

Which is brutal. As of a few days ago, iirc they had 11 games against ranked teams. That’s rough.

I just checked their schedule. 9 ACC games against ranked foes, which doesn’t include Duke despite being NET #24, but does include UNC who are NET #55. I think 9-9 against that brutal schedule, putting them at 18-11, would be good enough for like an 8-seed.

Last year, two teams finished 9-9 in the ACC:

  • Syracuse, 18-12 in reg season + ACCT, no good noncon wins and 1 bad loss… went to WNIT

  • NC State, 20-11 in reg season + ACCT, beat #10 on the road in noncon… was an NCAAT 7 seed

(Also notable, they played each other in the ACCT first round, and NC State won by 25.)

Takeaway… we probably need 9-9 plus an ACCT win.

To say the women’s shooting started cold would be an understatement. Started 2-14 from the field and 0-7 from 3. Up to 11-35 overall and 2-12 from 3 at the half.

Absolutely crushing Ryder on the boards, though, 30-15 despite UVA having missed a million shots. Basically, UVA shoots, misses, grabs the rebound, and repeats it until Rider fouls them.

Wow. Warm-up shooting as half-time ends. Literally only Clark has made a shot beyond the FT line.

Edit - Ok, now they’re starting to go in but they were hitting 1/3 of them, tops.

Edit2 - And halfway through Q3, the women are up 17 having hit what feels like 10 straight shots.

Edit3 - Just saw Blake and, I think Dunn (facing other way and had hood up)

Coach Mox needs to say whatever she says at HT before the 1Q. Totally different team this half as usual.

32 in a half and then 25 in a quarter

We ended with 31 offensive rebounds and 60 total rebounds. Crazy numbers.

That’s an insane stat line

Sat 10 feet from Minor at the women’s game. Already felt bad for the guy and he came in alone, sat and ate a dinner while he watched for 3 quarters alone, and left. Probably nothing. Probably just a dude taking in a women’s game solo. Hell, I went solo. But, suffice to say, I’m really ready for Minor to make a turn and have a decent game or two, even if it’s in junk time, and not just because it would be good for the team.

Even on the men’s worst days at converting bunnies, they were not as bad as the women were with layups tonight. If the game was at all close in the 2nd half, I’d have been tearing my hair out at how many point-blank, only lightly contested layups they missed. I mean, when they were 2-14, they were also 2-8 from 2pt range and probably 2/6 on layups.
