No rush man, enjoy the Super Bowl and do it tomorrow or something. Hope you feel better quick
Hereās how I look at this. No one is arguing Rohde is good right now. People just know heās going to play a lot, are justifying āwhyā through the lens of understanding Tony Bennett tendencies, and since heās clearly going to be playing a lot, are looking for positive signs.
People were justified to be excited about Rohde signing here. People are justified to be dissapointed in how heās played. People are also justified to not give up on his development since heās here for two more years and clearly has potential.
@jphat007 - what % did you shoot in college? Oh thatās right- you never played sports. Also, I guarantee I can whoop your ass in any sport you name right now. Today.
Sitting out immigration law, but if you get to antitrust, bank regulation, or admin, Ill be there
just opinion though. Rohdeās plus minus in that non-conference was pretty bonkers (in a good way). A lot of data that shows at the time we were bad when Rohde WASNT on the floor. So I dont think your assumption is the right one here. However it has caughten up and post foot injury Rohde has been rough.
Remember that Armaan was also pretty atrocious his first year too and yet you were wondering if a 5th year armaan would have been really good for us this year. Players develop and adjust and change. And itās clear a lot of Rohdeās struggles are psychological (he was outperforming top 50 kids at Peach Jam and 31 points on 5-13 from 3 combined against Creighton and Utah last year. On top of being 97 for 119 from the free throw line for 80%.)
I think he doesnāt move the needle in the way you view the game and thatās absolutely fair, but I think he moves the needle a lot in the way Tony sees the game.
It is a positive step. Sure it could be disappointing. But we have Reece and McKneely popping off. Rohde, at his best, is a low ceiling floor stabilizer. Those are appreciated in how Tony runs his schemes
Now since we have entertained the Rohde Gertrude Taine talks, can we acknowledge that Mallory reclassed Bliss Trent Perry poached from southern call is better than everyone else in our guard rotation?
If Eli had been getting good burn all season (letās say 10 mins per game), isnāt he great for that game? Dribble penetration was what beat FSU, and Eli would live in the paint, whereas Rohde mostly dribbles backwards. (Iāll cop to being super high on Rohde, FWIW.)
Your relentless recruiting the next man optimism always makes me laugh. Thanks for that
Not having strong feelings on the Rohde discussion but to down play someone on this team (starter or reserve) stepping up and swishing both FTās on the front end of a 1& 1 at crunch time is a stretch. How many times has that happened this year and it certainly didnāt happen against Furman. I mean other than IMac.
Tony
I recall @salty making fun of the āalways next yearā rhetoric⦠but this time itās real
But do we know Eli would? Itās not the same pressure, but for example against Memphis, who pressured us non stop, he played 11 minutes and had 3 turnovers. I understand itās kind of a cop out answer, but I tend to believe if Eli could do the things we hope we could, the coaching staff would be playing him more.
Including the Memphis game (because I consider them decent competition) along with his games against P5 opponents in which he did get double digit minutes, he had a total of 16 points to go along with 8 turnoversā¦
EDIT TO ADD: Those P5 games were 18 mins against Syracuse, 11 mins at Notre Dame
Iām as hopeful for Eli as anyone, I believe heās a guy with NBA level upside, but he has to get there.
We need a Hav vs Hav Nots Challenge. Like an iron man competition, for him anyway. Line up LRA regulars and have him go one on one in various ridiculous sports. Cornhole vs @Hooandtrue curling vs @BDragon pickleball vs @AnonymooseHoo
Easy. He bought 2 of his 10 porsche-UHS from her.
āSpot Williford in the Crowdā. We are given 30 seconds to spot Williford in the Crowd of a random DMV private school game. Would be so one sided. Like that Germany Brazil 7-1 game
The pressure is definitely a concern, but thatās why I specified that in my hypo heād have been playing regularly all season. Rohde sucked against the Memphis pressure too IIRC (the whole team didāit was brutal), but heās gotten more comfortable over the course of the season with the benefit of lots of PT. Anyway, the press from FSU was relatively soft, which you could tell because we regularly let non-Reece guards (even RD) bring the ball up. Against that specific kind of press and switching defense, I think Eli will feast over the next couple years (and may well have feasted this year if given a chance to get more comfortable).
None of this is to deny Rohdeās great contribution yesterday or his effort throughout the season. Iām grateful for what heās done for the team, and I suspect heāll have a big game before the seasonās over.
Iām in. I was recruited in ping pong, pool, lawn darts, golf, red-rover, skiing, sailing, tennis, and am an accomplished and decorated swimmer internationally
Have never played pickle ball in my life - do you think Iām geriatric?
Iāve never played it either, but Iām amazing at it.
