Reece!!
Iām a self-admitted Blake naysayer as a huge caveat but I think Groves is a better screener and positions himself better than Blake. And at least offers some offensive upside.
Blake playing zero second half minutes though was a bit surprising. Not that I disagreed with it, more that Tony agreed with it
Any chance we can get Naithan George in the transfer portal? lol Dude is a good player, lots of poise for a freshman kinda reminded me of LP with a less consistent jumper.
Thought the hard hedge was fine this game. Drew out a couple of turnovers from bad passes from GTās bigs, or Reece disrupting the pass over the top of the hedge. They also tweaked the coverage so that the ball-handlerās defender dropped back to make the pass to the screener more difficult while the hedge was happening. I wouldnāt do it 100% of the time, but I like it as sort of their equivalent of a corner blitz.
Maybe that switch has flipped?
Minor appears to be on track to be a big contributor the rest of the season, that is huge on so many levels.
As IMac goes, so goes our offense it seems. Him hitting 3s is so big for this team.
Held our own on the glass. That has trended much better lately, probalby having to do with Minor giving quality minutes.
We hit the 3 ball well we are tough to beat.
We have a real opportuity to put together a real streak and get ourselves back in the ACC race. Go Hoos.
Groves is a pretty bad screener tbh but he at least offers the threat of a pick and pop which makes defenders at least have to respect him. BB was better in the VT game but still has a long ways to go, probably a little better post defender than Jake but not enough to offset what he lacks on offense right now.
I donāt think Groves is a good screener by any means. But he is at least in the right place more often. Blake is kinda lost. And thats mostly because Groves has four more years of experience to be fair.
I donāt think Blake is a great post defender yet. Heās got an a few inches on Jake but not enough weight. And my biggest issue with Blakeās defense is heās often out of position or too late on the hedge. Groves a little more dialed in (and again four more years of experience).
Either way, would love for Blake to figure those things out to be able to give 10-15 min per game.
I still want a Federiko Federiko on our team.
No. I donāt want to have to root against a UVa player.
Not trying to litigate if Rohde is good or shoud play, but his defensive instincts are awesome. He know where he should be and has a great head for when he should help.
A few times on D he showed a double when Minors guy had the ball down low and it really disrupted his post play. One led to a travel.
Heās not the quickest but his positioning is pretty elite.
I love the shooting and the announcer kudos. Only quibble with the announcers: that GT logo is so big, McKneely hit two shots āfrom the logoā one of which was my guess 25 ft (impressive) and one at the end of the clock Iām guessing was 30 ft (it was insane). As such, the āhitting from the logoā lacks the precision I want out out of my ACCN play by play guys. Kidding, Iāll spend the whole game listening to Corey tell me he didnāt use to pass if I get to watch ball movement and shooting like that. Go Hoos!
The good:
-
Minor proved it wasnāt a fluke. Stout offensively and stout defensively
-
Beekman went alpha. Heās been the guy this year.
-
Isaac hit some big shots.
-
Dunn back to early season defensive domination, and hit a three while we were all watching FSU and Clemson trade free throws.
-
Road win against a team that beat Duke and Clemson. Barely will be a Q2 by season end but still feels big for the moment.
The in between:
- Rohde going 2-6 with a three and some assists is enough to get us a win. But heās prolly a really good 6th man getting starter minutes if we all wanted to be honest with ourselves.
The bad:
-
Free throw shooting is just bad across the board. The Dunn air ball

-
Other than Groves, not sure we have anyone that can influence the game off the bench. Harris and Blake can give the starters a breath but itās sketchy.
-
Similar note but we havenāt figured out how to use Bond or Gertrude and I kinda donāt see the equation changing next season either. Makes me sad.
Bond needs to be able to shoot 3s. I donāt really understand how heāll be able to play high major college basketball without that skill
Told ya Dragon in the house

NIL, but itās just a fund to get @BDragon to every game?
I accept all donations and will travel to amy ACC school south of DC. Refuse to go to Cuse or BC in the winter
And kinda worries me.
Nah theyāll stick it out and develop. And if they dont then we can find better fits (like Mallory and Stevens and maybe Trent Perry but thats just my own delusion)
