Ah man now Im being taken back, and not in a good way. Remember when we thought since Quinerly was working out with Jerome we would get him?
Damn! Coach O, did you have to keep it that real?
Numbers suggest otherwise on the defensive side. The only thing i can say for sure rohde does better is pass the ball.
Thereâs no reason why Gertrude canât be successful here. Look no further than Reece beekman for an example of a guy who can get by his man and get to the rack and play awesome defense even if he isnât a great shooter. Eli probably has a lot more upside in some areas than Reece, but his issue is TOs. Last jwilly show coach was pretty clear about it. Last game he played was wake, and he turned it over as soon as he got in. Last weâve seen of him.
Iâm in the camp of wanting to see him get minutes, but I also think I understand why heâs not getting run in these must win games where coincidentally we have two other guys starting to eat minutes who were not playing before the last two games.
Edit: for reference, rohde, Harris, Murray, and bond have combined for zero TOs the last two games.
Just respectfully disagree. Eli is a better offensive player. Rohde averages like 5 pts in 30+ mpg.
Again, not trying to bash Rohde or throw off the team. But to think 5-6 mpg of Eli wouldnât be beneficial to Eli and the team as the season progresses is just misplaced.
Not trying to bench Rohde, just share some of his 31mpg with an extremely promising young player.
Doesnât seem like too much of a risk.
Also, I believe Rohde had zero rebounds last night. That seems almost impossible if accurate, and I believe Eli is an excellent rebounder based on his limited minutes.
Again, this isnât to start some fight. But I think Tony is making a mistake. The fact that we won last night doesnât change my opinion because I believe that Eli would have helped the team as much as Rohde if they had shared some minutes.
Of course I could be wrong, but it seems wrong for Tony to not even try Eli in the past few games.
Will drop it now.
Go Hoos.
Yeah I think itâs just an agree to disagree, we saw first hand the minutes without rohde and how GT exploded their gap, and how Rohdeâs insertion lead to ball movement that got us back into the game and widened the lead in the beginning of the second half.
I will fight Tony aggressively on a lot (like the hedging/help and pushing the balll more). But I dont see an issue with the Rohde minutes on this team like others do.
agree with this. watched the recorded game for the first time this morningâŚwas surprised to see how much of the O that Rhode facilitates (2nd to Reece of course). Also, amazing to see us not struggle at all with the press towards the end of the gameâŚdonât think Iâve ever seen a CTB team break the press so easily.
I think Bennettâs preference would be to have 2 (but not all 3) of Beekman, Rohde and Harris on the floor as much as possible. When Harris was unavailable, the next best option was Gertrude, but he didnât turn out to be much of a good option. I didnât look to see if Taineâs minutes were part of this pattern, but that could make sense.
This is all my personal speculation, so I should look up our lineup combo history before saying any more.
Regarding shooting issues I donât think that Dunn âfeels is shot all the way throughâ. He seems to not follow through on his free throws (hold his pose) and wants to get it out of his hands as soon as possible. This is the same for his threes in that If he kept his pose it would allow him to guide his shots better⌠please ask JWilly about this.
Will reiterate something mentioned in another post, Dunn hits an incredibly high percentage of 3s when shooting with < 6 seconds on the shot clock. Last night another example of that. When he has not time think, his natural abilities and repetitions kick in. When he can think about it, like on a FT, he gets in his own head.
Very fixable and once he figures out how to control his brainâŚwatch out. His stroke and form look very good. He also hits a very high percentage of 3s in warmup last night.
Go HOOS! Beat State.

Choo choo!
Best offensive game against a Power 6 team with a winning record since 12/2 against Syracuse.
3rd best overall (Louisville, Syracuse and then Ga Tech).
Reece on D vs Miles Kelly?
8 points on 3/11 shooting and zero FT attempts. 2 turnovers.
Kelly had averaged 16 pts per game over his last 7 games and was only the 2nd time this year he didnât get to double digit scoring. Also had shot 23 free throws in his last 7.
This is my gripe with Rohde, particularly in our losses. Sometimes it seems like everyone that we have on the court is a facilitator and no one wants to attack. Yesterday it was great because iMac was hot, and Minor has given us a lot more options in the lane. But in some games, when our stuff isnât working, we need guys who are going to try and make something happen. Rohde doesnât seem like one of those guys this year, and I think Eli is. Unfortunately, Eli needs experience to be a difference maker in those situations, and Iâm afraid that heâs not getting it.
Hoos with a rare win on 2nd chance points 11-6.
And even on boards 29-29 - obviously helped by better shooting.
Fast break points win too - 9-4
Ga Tech wins bench scoring 22-11
Hoos points off turnovers 21-9 - also rare we capitalize on this one
fair point. both can be true. Rhode is valuable and Eli needs some experience.
Definitely not saying that Rohde is not an important part of our team this year. It seems like he brings a lot to the table that is really important, and that Tony really values. Just saying that sometimes we need something different, and Eli seems to offer that but hasnât been able to get the experience that he needs to be a difference maker yet.
Kinda funny - Isaac had no problem with confidence or deep range in high schoolâŚ
Maybe some havenât seen his game against Bronny?
I honestly donât understand the crying about no Eli minutes last night. We FINALLY won our first true road game, a road game that shrunk to just a 5 point lead with under 1:30 to go, and some folks takeway is that he should have taken 5 or 10 of Rohdeâs minutes? If weâd been blown out yet again then Iâd readily agree, but arguing against the results of our FIRST true road win seems silly to me.
To be clear, Iâm not saying that playing Eli some would have lost us the game, nor had us win by a greater margin, thereâs literally no way to know. But we finally fucking won and put up 75, the offense looked good.
Absolutely NOT trying to restart a reshirt debate, but one could argue he never should have been shirted in the first place, and that if he got more run in the early cupcake games at home, that he would be more ready to contribute right now. Maybe less turnover prone, more in control, and shooting better than 9% from three. Instead he got thrown into the fire against Texas A&M and Syracuse. And FWIW I thought he played really well! Heâs smooth and oozing potential, I am excited for him long term for sure.
