After game 1, it seemed that Buchananās performance and ability would be the biggest predictor of the trajectory for the season.
Now it seems like we kind of know what we have in Buchanan.
Accordingly, it now seems that Rohdeās ability to rise into a consistent scoring threat and playmaker is the biggest predictor to watch this season.
Think you are missing that the other team has highly paid coaches and scholarship guys too. Guards struggled because thatās how Goldenās defensive system is designed. Going against a defense like that is a lesson our guards were going to need to learn in game action at some point. Getting it game 2 can only be a positive
And guess what? Blake and Groves stepped up. Really not sure how how that can be construed as a negative. Especially this early in the season
Imagine a Duke or UNC guy ever doing this to their school. Unforgivable because of how proactive it was on his part
I understand what you mean. I do think itās telling that we could win without those things happening though. Makes me think the floor is higher than we thought while the ceiling remains high. But yeah work needs to be done.
And youāre probably right that he should be more mad at the refsā¦. But also I personally enjoy him going after a UVA guy who went out of his way to try and change a call against usā¦. Whether thatās fair or not.
I canāt imagine Bilas doing it to Duke ā¦
I guess the flip side is that UF obviously game planned to take away the 3 from Rohde and IMac and limit Reeceās driving and the other dudes stepped up. That wonāt work every game but it will keep other teams honest. The big determinant will be if one of the guards can really become dominant enough to score in the face of the defense scheming for them.
I actually could. I donāt feel like Bilas has Duke bias. Feel like heās the opposite imo. I know many will disagree with me. I have Duke friends(please donāt hurt me) who hate Bilas for that reason.
I just donāt see it with Rohde. Looks relatively slow to me and doesnāt have good enough handle or a good enough shot to compensate for that. Good depth piece but I donāt think weāre going to get all acc caliber performances out of him
I see a future All ACC player. Not this year but heās going to be very very good. Also did not expect him to be nearly as solid defensively as he has been so far
Hard disagree. 6ā6, defends at a decent level for his lack of experience in the packline and can shoot itā¦. Also very smooth. I expect him to breakout at some point this year and be a pretty consistent double digit scorer in his career here.
I always forget that heās a sophomore so that does make me more optimistic about him long term
Yep.
Weāve played two teams that pressure the ball and deny on the wings, and pick up 3/4 court and full-court pressure.
We have 13 total turnovers and have made 17-40 from three.
Besides the defensive glass and FT shooting, thereās nothing to complain about.
Except Cory Alexander.
Couldnāt disagree more honestly. 6ā6 guards who can be secondary ball handlers like he is do NOT grow on trees. Heās very cerebral offensively and defensively and contributed in a lot of ways that didnāt show up on the stat sheet. His offense will come I mean hell itās been two games.
His defense is way better than I expected
Actually, the way Cory kept repeating himself about the ball going back to Florida, it reminded me of this play in the Purdue game in 2019 (āEdwards did not touch it last. Edwards did not touch it last.ā)
Maybe itās a high school class of 1991 thing (Webber and Cory were in the same high school class).
Nah Rohde was pretty elite at times.
He does a lot of little things very well. Wish he was a bit quicker but that might never be part of his game tbh, would like to see him bulk up quite a bit and really embrace the big guard role. Play some bully ball against smaller guards without needing to blow past them off the dribble.
I am a little disappointed with how slow Rohde is bringing up the ball under pressure.
But if you view him as a 6ā6 wing/sg instead of a future pg, heās pretty good as a sophomore in his 2nd game with a new team.
Tu fast Tu furious.
Tu true
