Virginia vs. Florida (11/10/23) 7pm EST ACC Network

Was good to see Rohde hit some shots, and he made a couple 3s in the first game. But we’re not getting any playmaking from him so far. That was my point in the earlier post. Want to see him look to create more. Don’t get me wrong it’s nice to have another shooter, but guys who can create their shot are a lot better.

I’m with you. It sucked that it happened but it was the right call. If someone wants to argue is that agaisnt the rules sure I’ll hear it. But I’m not gonna be mad at CA for that.

I really like Rohde. And think he’s solid.

But for this team to be elite, he probably needed to be a the secondary playmaker. And not sure he’s shown that yet.

Nothing wrong with what he’s done so far though.

I think this was the universe making up for the “officiating error” of the duke game last year. In the end we won both.
F ‘em.

The encouraging thing with Rohde is his defense has been very solid. That will get him on TB’s good side and allow him to get the requisite minutes to grow his game and confidence on offense.

On the upside pretty sure I locked up parent of the yr for letting our 3 yr old stay up and warch the game. She was perched between her mom and I for the final 5 mins and loving it. Her new favorite players are Blake Buchanon and Harris. Last 2 yrs it was Kihei

Tony yelling at Cory… that was wild. Has a coach ever gotten a technical for screaming… at the color commentator?! :joy:

Sure, this game had some warts — giving up so many offensive rebounds and missing so many free throws in particular— but several positives too. Besides pulling out a gutty win against a very good team and shooting 39% from 3, it was incredible to see a 1st year big for us play that tough and that effectively in his second college game against a really big and aggressive opposing front court. More importantly, Blake upped his play even more when the game was on the line. Finally, I’m guessing that Florida fans are complaining just as much about the 16 to 6 disadvantage in turnovers (including 15 UVA steals) as we were about the offensive rebounding.

I see what you are saying. I think where Im at is what @WFS_HOO alluded to: if you view Rohde more as a joe Harris/devon hall type than a Ty Jerome type you get excited about his trajectory and what he can do. But I think you are of the opinion, and rightfully so, that this team’s ceiling lies on Rohde being more of a ty jerome creater/secondary facilitator to Reece in the starting line up.

I am hopefully of Dunn and McKneely’s assists though.

(Basically what @Hoohoohoo said as well in terms of needs to be more jerome than Joe Harris/Devon Hall. Its what this roster needs)

I genuinely believe Rohde will show more as a playmaker once he gets more comfortable. Stretch of cupcake games coming up should help

Tu is Tony’s burner account

I get the rationalization, but bad calls happen all the time but what never happens is an announcer impacting the call.

It’s a bad precedent. And of course it happens to UVA. And of course it’s a former player.

I like this team a lot. It will be survive and advance early in the season due to lack of experience but a lot of offensive talent.

If Rohde can shoot consistently from deep, I like the potential for him to create on the drive when opponents try to run him off the line.

I think we’ve seen Tony that angry about 5 times in 15 years. He must hate that mfer.

On Cory, did the refs initiate the discussion by asking Cory if they got the call right or did Cory initiate the discussion? If the matter, that’s just wrong. He shouldn’t be inserting himself into the game like that. That’s not his job. I’m less troubled if it was the former. That being said, I’m not sure that Cory was right about the call. It kind of looked like the ball may have gone off of the Florida player’s knee. Hard to say for sure. Cory never looked at that issue. He can be so confident in himself that he ignores other details.

I have mixed feelings about the game. Obviously love Blake’s effort and showing. His ceiling is high. I’m really disappointed with Dunn so far this season. He is not showing signs of making the big leap this year. I don’t see him as a lottery player. While his handle has definitely improved this year, he doesn’t seem to be able to create offense. We need him and iMac to be creators for us. iMac is showing some potential but he largely disappeared when we needed him in the second half.

Sure but that’s on the ref not CA. He didnt hold a gun to the guys head. Ref could have easily backed himself.

Speaking of shooting consistently, Dunn seems tight when shooting his 3-pointers so far this season.
