Virginia vs. Florida (11/10/23) 7pm EST ACC Network

Yeah this has been a real bright spot. We talked about who was gonna guard Kugel, Reece or do they go big to put Dunn on him. Mostly it was Rohde tonight. Reece at times but Rohde for a big part of the game. Kugel wound up with 17 I think but he needed 19 shots to get them. We’ll take that.

To me, it looked like the ball went off Florida’s knee there and the call on the floor stands.
AT BEST, if you gotta look endless amounts of time to try to figure it out, it’s inconclusive and the call on the floor should stand. Whole thing was a total debacle and nearly cost us the game.

I was picking up my wife at the airport for most of the second half, so I didn’t get a chance to follow the in-game posts here. I was so pumped when Reece stole the ball at the end that I screamed in the car. When I got home, I headed immediately to this site to share my happiness with my fellow Virginia fans.

Instead, what I found was post after post of moping and complaining. Man, you guys just suck all the joy out of winning.

I joined this site figuring it was a place I could celebrate wins and commiserate losses. I didn’t expect it to be a place where we commiserated wins.

Cory literally called him over. Just rewatched it. No place in the game for it.

It was the refs choice to listen to CA he coulda said or ignored it. And the right call was made. Does it suck it happened? Sure isnit worth shitting the bed over? No

No Tony was mad at Cory seemingly interjecting himself. It was apparent in person.

Yeah this is a good question. Either way it’s on the refs but it does matter for public opinion with UVA fans haha I definitely underestimated the anger on this, gotten several messages from people about it.

2nd game of the year on Nov 10th. They are usually ugly this time of the year esp with so many new pieces. I am disappointed that Minor is essentially a non-factor. Could be the first big whiff of the transfer portal for us. Rodhe looked better today but hopefully there is still another gear there. Defense was soft at times and the rebounding/FT was atrocious.

The bright spot is I think the defense/FT shooting/rebounding are coachable and will get better. Minor not being a factor is a big concern. What a game for BB, gonna ride him all year in the post it appears.

Not pretty but this time of the year you just take the quality Ws and avoid bad losses. It will get prettier as the year goes on.

Isaac was on Kugel a lot tonight also.

Cory claimed during the broadcast that he was asked by the one ref if they got it right. They huddled. Cory offered his monitor as he repeatedly said it was Florida’s ball as the refs were a foot away.

I didn’t think the video was conclusive.

That was my observation and he looked much more than just serviceable defending Kugel which is HUGE. To keeping him on the floor offensively when defensively it might be a tough assignment

Man Im excited. We have young players playing. And they are going to get so much better.

It was the right call in my opinion. And yes, ultimately it all comes down to the refs.

But I think it’s absolutely fair for folks to be upset with a third party interjecting themselves into the game in a way that is fairly unprecedented.

I het that and I’d be pissed to. But from what I saw it was the right call and in this case the ends justify the means. I woulda killed for the refs to listen to the announcers last night during the football game. Sometimes the sports gods do you a solid

Ever since the call that went against Texas Tech and Moretti in the 2019 title game, I kind of feel like the only way to make the “right” call is to have a legion of high-definition cameras from all angles.

Honestly I think I’m more mad at Cory for making the postgame talking point primarily about that review instead of how we played, rather than the actual review itself.

Good stuff:
-Blake everything
-iMac’s defense. Low key excellent.
-Gutting it out. W!
-True shooting threats: iMac, Groves, Rohde, and Reece!!
-Dunn’s sportsmanship after he blocks a guy that definitely seems a little troll-ish

Rough stuff:
-Post depth. No Minor.
-Defensive rebounding. Woof.
-having a second playmaker. Need one.
-Reece at the rim. And on defense at times :grimacing:
-Referees :handshake::ring: announcers
-Todd Golden’s inseam and general demeanor.
