“Ryan Dunn tied a school record with career-high seven steals.”
All I know is the Hoos won a game that many on this board said they woulf get boat raced in. And instead of being happy about the win the emergence of a potential dominant big. And an insanely promising young core. We are fixated on a call that ended up with no affect on the final outcome
I disagree - I read what you wrote, and I think: wow, we beat a good Florida team without much contributions offensively from Bond, Dunn, or Rohde in the 2nd half… this is indicative of DEPTH, we don’t have to rely on 1, 2, 3, or even 4 players, we have 5-8 who can grit their way to a W for the team. That it was Groves and Buchanan tonight, is a testament to this.
Pretty sure the same ref was involved in both - Lee Cassell.
Just back from the game, fuck Corey for pulling that bullshit. Yes, the refs shouldn’t listen to him, but he shouldn’t be doing that regardless. I will intentionally misspell his name from now on. The sad thing is Corey is probably ecstatic about it all because he becomes a part of the story now.
I thought Rohde was great. And I bet he’ll get even better.
I thought the ball changed direction off the knee too.
Oh, there was plenty of affect, I assure you.
Correction: Jake & Blake
We make free throws and dont play that Reece Dante heavy minutes stretch (even though that defensive pairing can be okay in moments like the last possession of the game/only one at a time pls) we win by 80 and that’s with Leon Bond not even being unleashed.
Here’s another positive takeaway: Dante Harris is evidently better on pull-up jumpers than I might have anticipated.
Zach’s comment is my take as well. This was a good win, probably Q1, and we didn’t even play nearly to our potential. Even better things to come.
Couldn’t agree more - I’m no pollyanna, but holy hell its a bunch of dementors here. Possibly more so than on our other board, even… and thats saying a lot. How about we celebrate Beeks 12 to 1 assist to TO ratio?
Edit: just let us have our fun
Which one of you is this? I appreciate his work.

I honestly think the Cory thing got everybody in a negative frame of mind. I think most folks are pretty happy. But that situation got everybody riled up.
Nope, not fixated, just pointing out how crazy the whole situation was. Have you ever seen that? It was a great win and we saw a lot of positives and negatives overall. But, being a message board, we are going to discuss the minutia. You have to admit that was wired and it is fun to discuss CTB getting mad!
Weird not wired:)
I don’t understand the “it was ugly, but we’ll take the W” comments.
First of all, Virginia has almost always been ugly. Even in the championship year.
Secondly, I don’t think it was ugly at all. I think there’s a lot of reason to be excited:
- Blake Buchanan is a stud, on both ends of the court. And he’ll only get better.
- Rohde is better than advertised. Not just a three-point specialist.
- We shot 39% from three.
- We forced 16 turnovers. After a rocky start, the defensive rotations were tight.
- We held their star player to 7-19 from the field.
- Groves is better than advertised, too. He’s not a big man. I’m not sure how much we’ll see him at the 5 anymore. But he can shoot from outside, and a couple of times he showed he can drive or post up.
- Even when we missed shots, the offense was running smoothly. We didn’t look lost. We didn’t look hesitant. We didn’t take a lot of bad shots.
- We turned the ball over only six times. Assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.5.
We weren’t perfect. But it was the second game for a team that still remains somewhat of a mystery with so many new players. No complaints here.
I’m glad TB reacted the way he did. It would have bothered me if he had a casual reaction. Doesn’t really matter whether the call was right or wrong, or who got possession…both Cory and the officials were wrong, and what happened needs to never happen.
I’m really exited about this team. We gave away an 11 point lead and finished out the game. Lots of talk pre season was us peaking in March. I haven’t said it but if we don’t play well early we might not have a chance at March. The ACC has been non-trendy the last three years or so. People want to leave us out because we aren’t Duke or UNC. We need to win games early, we don’t have the luxury of peaking in March. That’s why, good or bad performance, this is a really positive start.
