Don’t forget the Kon decommitt, and Power, Schutt, Kaleb Glenn, and Reed Sheppard transfers
If the core group stays together, then it’s a veteran-laded 2025-2026 rotation that tantalizes (year in college in parentheses):
PG: Bliss (3), Gertrude (3)
2G: McKneely (4), Gertrude (3)
SF: Rohde (4), Bond (4)
PF: Bond (4), Cofie (2)
C: Buchanan (3), Robinson (3)
That’s a potentially strong 8-man rotation, particularly if Gertrude can contribute at point guard. (There’s an assumption that Dunn will try his hand professionally, but that’s an unknown.)
Of course it’s unusual for rosters to get old together in the transfer/NIL world, but maybe …
On Cory-gate, Eamonn Brennan has a good write up. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet to subscribe to his blog, but he discussed the incident in the free portion of his blog:
I think Eamonn is right that Cory’s loud pontificating on that matter caused the refs to go ask Cory about it. In other words, he caused the refs to come over. More problematic, he advocated for the change in call in front of the refs as they were reviewing the monitor.
I’ve never really been a fan of Cory’s commentator style but at least he is a UVA guy and I like that. Not just another Dookie announcer. He is better than some other announcers too like Chris Webber. However, he really crossed the line on this incident. He wants to be the main character too often. He realized he screwed up when Tony was yelling at him.
All that being said, this incident didn’t cost us the game and ended up being a funny moment as Eamonn described. I think some of the anger toward Cory seems over the top.
Announcers should never interject themselves into the game. Doesn’t matter if it is good for us or bad for us, if they’re right or wrong about the call, they should never, ever interject themselves into the game.
Corey should be fired or at the very least suspended.
This one hundred percent. Definitely right to be annoyed and I get Tony’s reaction the game. Some of the stuff I’ve read on forums is a little ridiculous though. It’s just not that big a deal, he’s a Hoo, and it’ll all be fine. Will soon be time to just laugh about it.
Now that I’ve had about 13 hours to cool down, I tend to agree, but was still VERY wrong.
Hopefully this is an isolated one-time incident, and the reaction from our fan base will serve as an ego check for Cory, and he won’t do it again. If he does (our game or any game) then I won’t be as forgiving.
We don’t know how good or bad Florida is yet. Time will answer that. They might turn out to be a very good team and this will be very helpful to us, or they may be middling. We don’t know.
It’s a solid win for sure, but how good it really is will be determined by Florida’s performances during the season.
It’s irrelevant what the fan base thinks or the coaches think. There are just some things that announcers should never do and this is probably the top of the list. Corey should have declined to interject but he’s always the star of the show in his own mind. I despise his announcing anyway.
Agree, but I’m hoping what has followed since the incident will at least make him think twice before doing it again.
There probably aren’t too many times in his life (outside of maybe closed practices) where Cory got as called out/made to look bad like TB did in the heat of the moment. It’s like he immediately knew he screwed up, and it felt like it bothered him. He even seemed a little more toned down when calling the Tech/USC-e night cap.
It will be interesting to see how well Zyon Pullin elevates the Florida team after he returns from his suspension:
Shouldn’t everyone be mad at the ref? He was the one who made the call. Chose to listen to CA and gave CA the opening.
At the end of the CA is just talking he didnt force anyone to do anything. The ref had a choice and he made it.
CA might have opened the door but it was the ref who willingly skipped through it.
Yep, and there’s as much of a chance that he transfers to Gonzaga after this year as Gertrude transfers to St. John’s — which is zero.
I agree, but you know all those nice things preachers say about love on Sundays? Like, there’s always more love? You have one kid, and you couldn’t love anyone any more, and then you have a second kid**, and that love expands? Blah blah blah… Well that’s how I feel about hate. I got room for lots of haterade!
(this is a joke)
** not me, I’ve been mostly broken by just one child, but theoretically
Yeah but when you have a third child, the love doesn’t expand anymore. You’re too frazzled by then. Third child is on his own. (I was a third child)
There is actually a great joke about this …
Ha ha, me too!
That’s why I capped it at 2
Micah H. will be a handful this year. And once they gel with Pullin, I think they’ll be pretty good, esp dialing back Clayton — he’s a TO machine.
Pullin’s dynamic. They have a big, athletic frontcourt. Richard can flat-out shoot. And as much of a punk ass I think he is, Kugel’s going to be really good.
7-10 seed seems about right.
Interesting stat - that I don’t think anyone tracks - would be first shot, half court efficiency. I suspect theirs was pretty low: was that our defense? Their lack of half court scoring? Missing Pullin? TBD
This had me really confused for the first couple times
