Virginia vs. Florida (11/10/23) 7pm EST ACC Network

I like Cory doing color. It will be interesting to hear his take on this year’s team.

And to hear Cory talk about how great Cory was

I don’t mind Cory talking about Cory as long as someone who has his phone number texts him that the NCAA removed MOV as a NET criteria back in May of 2020.

The single biggest problem in CLT (followed closely by the huge number of Buckeyes and the way people drive)

They definitely want to run, and they won’t be able to do that much, so I don’t know if it will really be a “battle of wills” (as Golden** calls it) so much as they’ll just have to play well in the halfcourt.

But if a team wants to be at all decent, they need to be good at playing in the halfcourt (which is why I don’t really think the fact that we almost always win the playing style battle is that much of an edge).

** but keep in mind that Golden is a boygenius, and I’m just a hot-takes-smith, so … :man_shrugging:

Tony Bennett when he finds out whoever told Todd Golden how our players did in the scrimmages

Did he really say that Virginia isn’t as girthy this year

He sounds over confident to me reading through

Everyone has a plan until the first hard hedge. Didn’t Mike Tyson say that or something?

I think it was originally Gen Patton and was “everyone has a plan until the first shot clock violation”

No, no, no. It was Rudy Giuliani who said, “Everyone has a plan until the first vote is counted!”

I don’t see it as much now as I used to, but after the first few years of us being good under TB, it was always fun to visit opponent message boards before our game. Without fail there would be a thread about “all we have to do is speed Virginia up…force them to play a faster pace”.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the 100 teams we played before you didn’t have much success with that either.

It was Homer who said “mmmmmmm…doughnuts.”

One thing about Todd Golden teams is they run opponents off the 3-point line. Goes with his whole analytics point of view. In the loss to San Fran in '21, they had more made threes (13) than UVA attempts (12) and that was a good three-point shooting team with Hauser and Murphy.

Quick Torvik look up, they ranked 4th in opponents 3P attempt rate that year, meaning 4th lowest. And his teams have been top 15 each of the last two years.

The guards are gonna have to make plays in this one. They won’t help off shooters.

Good game to see how much Reece’s at-rim finishing (and midrange game) has improved with another year (and getting healthy).

Same for IMac and Bond. Can they show some slashing ability

Maybe a little Point Dunn too

Interesting. That makes me pretty nervous because it seems like this team could be pretty reliant on the 3 ball, but also a nice opportunity to find ways to score in different ways. Really no idea what to expect tomorrow in terms of performance

Great point. May not be a game for Groves. He will not be taking anyone to the tin. Bring on Bond.

That tells me whomever is guarding Reece is gonna be in foul trouble.

Also Loyola was 9/26 from 3 in game 1. 35%
