lol! This is my thought on this. Dave thinks he knows some secret that the guy whoās coached us to 25 wins in his first year and sees his guys in every practice doesnāt know about. Itās silly really.
I hope Eli sticks around, develops his game, becomes a quality player for us. But it aināt gonna be this year.
Also anyone we analyze minutes for in the type minutes Eli and others get is meaningless really. He cant shoot 3s cause his percentage is low on the season is wrong
Why do we act like the three-point shot is the only metric we care about? Honestly, Iād much rather see Eli develop shots around the basket. We know he can get by his man (although I agree his handle needs tightening). We know he can dunk. Now, the question is: When he doesnāt have an open lane to the rim, what can he do? Can he make layups in traffic, and through contact? Hit a floater? Pull up for a jumper? Find the open man?
Reece was a very effective offensive player and shot only 31% from three. Chance on average takes only three three-poijnters a game, and hits only one. There are a lot of ways to add value on offense without being a sniper.
Feels like he has (or had) a few paths to more PT, and obviously none of these are in isolation from the others:
defensive stopper (some green shoots but his off ball awareness was rough and his on ball was not dominant)
better self creator (elite burst; needs a little wiggle)
Better creator for others (getting there maybe?)
teammates who thrived more in a havoc pressure style (out of his hands, really; not this year)
Better shooter (already discussed)
Agree that itās much more than just his shooting. I think the defensive stopper is the one thatās the most frustrating b/c it feels like a catch 22 ā heāll get better with PT, but needs to have it already to get PT in this roster.
Yeah, so far Grünloh has balled out in front of his family, Sam Lewis balled out in South Bend when his crew came to see him from Chicago, Jacari balled out in front of his crew in Tallahassee, and TDR slumped in front of his
He is electrifying no doubt. Hereās a question - if he can get past his man every time with ease, why doesnāt he just dunk it every time down? I mean, even in 5 min/game he could average 10 points. Why did he take a 3-pt shot where heās now 3 for 29 career when he couldāve just dunked it again for another Sportscenter highlight?
I thought Odom tore all that stupid sh*t down. Maybe a question for him in the next coachās forum - why donāt you play Eli 20 min so he can get 40 every time out?
Had me wondering how some other guys that have to come in cold off the bench have shot compared to 3-29 (.103). Career 3-pt totals for lesser-used guys in the last 10 years:
Bryce Walker 1-3, Tristan How 0-1, Chase Coleman 4-15, Jayden Nixon 0-4, Chris McGahren 0-1, Matt Palumbo 0-1, Austin Katstra 4-15, Grant Kersey 2-2, Justice Bartley 2-7, Trevon Gross 1-9, Jeff Jones 1-7. Total 15-65 (.230).
Shaka - still a Shaka believer (see thread)
Wade - good coach, but lost some trust in his roster building abilities. Whereās the big?
Grant - feels like heās content at the mid major level now so hard to rank him
Rhoades - shoulda stayed at VCU; hope he loves money
Capel - maybe too harsh; he started it all
Martelli - more of an incomplete from me
I meant to note that earlier. Thanks for posting. Iād never seen that before. He actually did that several times to Wade during that ādiscussion.ā Bizarre.
