Good. Also I wish he would have done it more on his own but thats great to hear

I heard that our players gave Ron a standing ovation after the game when he walked into the locker room.

That’s why I asked earlier. Seems at. Wry least he would have given guys a rest. We pretty much iron manned in the second half.

My ideal scenario is Ron goes 15-5 we get to the NCAA T win a game and he gets a multi year contract. We have good player retention and we get Bennett Ball (an identity) with a good guy (Ronchez) running the program, and modernizing the offense.

Of course that seems still far fetched, although much more doable I think then most on her think.

Nice to hear the kids rallying around Ron.

Some of the stuff they ran in the second half looked like their middle triangle they’ve run the last few years but with some wrinkles. It’s nice when you run stuff like that with guys who can actually score down low, which we actually have on this team. We also got good looks off of ghost screens with McKneely and Saunders several times. NC St was getting confused on their switches. I also loved that quick hitter they ran to get Saunders a corner three when St went zone that one possession. I thought it was a good offensive half schematically. They shot over 50% for the game as well.

FYI, in the 8:30 Ames played, UVA was -7. In the 2:30 Power played, UVA was -6. I still see some ceiling for Ames if he can get it together. Power…. I don’t know man. I’m just not seeing it. I’d love to be wrong, but I haven’t even seen glimpses.

I’d also be overjoyed if, for once, we would go get some offensive rebounds.

I thought Dai Dai looked a step slow. Not sure he’s been 100% yet since the ankle injury. Would bet he tweaked again so they sat him.

I’d like to see Power get more run. Just easier said than done. Saunders is too valuable not to get max minutes.

We barely beat a very mid NC St team at home. I am happy we won but let’s hold our horses. We don’t wanna be in a Cuse or Nova situation

Curious @HoozGotNext what you see in Power that you want him on the floor more…to me he has been a complete dud to date and it’s not worth taking away Taine or Saunders minutes…

Curious who is getting ahead of themselves? Think we’re just happy to get a win

Power been fine defensively since they’ve stopped using him as a guard…he just hasn’t gotten comfortable offensively yet. He’s all sped up. Same thing you see all the time with young guys. If he got the opportunity, he might settle in. Until that happens, we don’t know what we have. He’s a triple threat 4 man, which there aren’t many of.

Never said I’d take minutes from anybody though…ie easier said than done. That’s the issue. He’s a PF…and that’s Saunders spot. So he’s the backup…unless there’s an injury that changes the rotation, his role is pretty well set.

What do you think about Guard-Guard-Saunders-Power-Cofie? With Saunders guarding the 3? Or do you lose the benefits of Power being at the 4 offensively in those lineups?

I think if you did that regularly, teams would just defend Power with a guard and he loses any value.

Yeah that sounds right. Ron must agree, I don’t think Power and Saunders have played a single minute together for the last 3 games.

Ron’s frontcourt rotation views are pretty clear now. PF is Saunders then Power, C is Cofie, Buchanan, and then ARob as an emergency option. No crossover between positions for any of those guys.

Backcourt is slightly more fluid, though I think Taine is looking like the clear first guard off the bench. And while Dai Dai and Rohde start together, Ron does stagger them a decent amount.

I love his game. But he has got to stop letting his man seal him off in the restricted area. Seems like a relatively easy fix

Mainly @hooandtrue lol

I’d argue (and have) he’s been worse defensively at PF than guard.

Its because his ability to help secure the glass and offer any resistance inside has been worse than his slides.

??? Its a message board lol. Why are you taking everything literallly? kills the fun

Just watched the second half tape. I liked the concerted effort to get Saunders the ball in the post. Possession after possession we got him the ball inside where he could work. Mentioned it in the game preview, he had a great matchup today. He’s very good against equal or smaller sized guys. Where was Middlebrooks today? We play them again in a couple weeks, wouldn’t be surprised to see BHH and middlebrooks together a lot if he’s healthy.

I really liked Cofie today. Love that he has been spacing the floor so well. It’s been annoying for a few years having a four man who can work the block (like Gardner) and having the 5 man run into the lane and take away the space to work. Cofie does a great job bringing his man out and allowing space for the more polished Saunders to work. But he’s gotta start hitting a few again for that to stick. Feels like forever since an outside shot went in for Cofie.

Breaking it up so it’s easier to read but continuing on Cofie, I liked his effort to bring the ball up a few times and push pace. Easiest way to beat the press is not let it get set and he did a good job of getting the ball ahead of half court quickly. I skimmed the thread but was his reverse layup with around 5 mins left discussed? That was gorgeous.

I really liked the balance of getting both Taine and Sharma minutes today. Liked that Taine was in and playing well as a catalyst during the run to get back in the game, and loved the use of Sharma later on in the second half to bring the ball up. His handle is better than I was expecting… not sure how much I like him actually creating in half court sets (not a slight, just not familiar enough with his game to have a true opinion) but I love using him to get the ball up. Obviously he’s an excellent shooter…

Can’t say enough good about Rohde in the second half. That 3 he hit with about 6 minutes left was big time. And didn’t turn the ball over, made a few plays, hit some shots… everything you can reasonably expect of him he did.

The tricky thing here is you can look at it and say well state isn’t very good. Which they aren’t. But in the same breath they’re solidly middle of the (wolf)pack ACC… today’s effort for me completely dispelled the idea of just press uva and they’ll struggle because we handled a pressing team well. It will take more athletes than the average team is going to have to actually disrupt them.

Saw HGN tagged me on our discussions of Ron the other day. It’s interesting to me to do the what if of what if Dai dai didn’t roll the ankle against SMU… playing devils advocate say Dai Dai at 100% health they beat both SMU and Memphis… no matter the score how different would 10-3, 2-0 be viewed than 8-5, 1-1?
