šŸˆ Virginia vs North Carolina, L, 41-14, 4-4 (2-3 ACC). Saturday, 26 October 2024, 1200, the CW

Post it dude. Might be all the entertainment we get left this year.

Won’t make a big blog style post, but some preliminary HC names I like:

  • Jon Sumrall, Tulane
  • Barry Odom, UNLV
  • Bob Chesney, JMU
  • Chris Creighton, Eastern Michigan
  • Ryan Silverfield, Memphis
  • Al Golden, Notre Dame DC (I know, but hear me out)
  • Jason Candle, Toledo
  • Jake Dickert, Washington State

Honestly Jamey Chadwell would be at or near the top of my list, but I don’t think our admin would even give him a sniff.

Football hire hasn’t been great. Tina Thompson was terrible. Mox seems good so far.

I don’t know her responsibilities around JPJ and Scott’s Stadium but feels like the experience in both venues have trended downward (to an extent football is also product on the field related).

You could argue that she hasn’t done enough for NIL or responded too slowly. That might be an uphill battle for any AD at UVA but easy to criticize. And the ACC re-alignment drama has died down but public perception was we were also passive in it (again, we don’t know the full details here so cutting slack).

Then you’ve got the foil of Littlepage having hired TB, Lars, Bronco, and BOC (although Craig hired his fair share of duds) + whatever non-revenue sports that were also humming when she came along. You then kind of have to question what exactly she’s ā€œbetteredā€ v maintained.

The real boogeyman is that she probably doesn’t have enough BOV or donor support to play ball in the new landscape of revenue sports. Not sure who can succeed there but she’s an easy scapegoat since it’s her job according to the fans to do so.

Brennan is my top choice, great ties to the area- I think he’d recruit well as a bonus to the good offense.

If he brings in Streeter to replace Des I may not watch a snap next year.

Marion would be incredible, but he’s gonna be a very hot commodity this offseason and I’d be surprised if he comes on to be the OC for a coach who could be a lame duck.

The only name out of the bottom four I listed that I’d be excited for is Craddock, and even he has his drawbacks.

This is all IMHO.

Jon Sumrall, Tulane | wait out an SEC job
Barry Odom, UNLV | interesting since he’s has P5 experience. Multiple bowl years in the desert and why not?
Bob Chesney, JMU | this profile I want. Built it from the mud at an under resourced academic school. Sound familiar?
Chris Creighton, Eastern Michigan | no idea
Ryan Silverfield, Memphis | wait for Auburn, Vandy, Ole Miss, or MS St to cycle thru their coaches?
Al Golden, Notre Dame DC (I know, but hear me out) | nothing else to hear out? The G. Welsh of N. Philly. Deserves a statue and he built it so well that 4 or 5 of the next coaches got hired out of there. Would kill it here.
Jason Candle, Toledo | OK
Jake Dickert, Washington State | hmmm!

Sumrall and Odom would be amazing hires. And 2 guys ready to make the jump.

Yeah I’m really interested in Odom, especially if he came with Marion. He didn’t do horrible at Mizzou, the expectations were just higher than what he was able to deliver. Wouldn’t be the same here.

Unfortunately I think Stoops may make some sort of move this year and Sumrall basically already has a contract offer from UK. He’s at the top of my list if not though.

Also want to look at Lance Leipold. I know this year isn’t great, but I think he’s a perfect fit for us if he’d leave.

Good call about Stoops I can see UK making a move.

Im not a big Leipold fan but he could be a good fit

Only thing with Leipold is he’s 60. Not sure he’d want another rebuild at that age.

I don’t think Leipold would take it but I think you have to call.

Sumrall is a real looming boogeyman in Lexington right now. They’re angry at Stoops (the Georgia punt was a real killer) and half of Kentucky wants to be done with him and bring in Sumrall. My girlfriend’s family is all big UK fans and her brother (season ticket holder) has sworn off Kroger field for the rest of the year he’s so mad about the Georgia punt lol.

I think Stoops is a great coach, and they’re being silly, but having Sumrall out there succeeding has made them all pretty chesty about their ability to do better. I find it all pretty funny tbh

Honestly I would take Stoops here if he gets canned.

Probably ends up as the DC at some SEC school though.

Willing to drive to LEX to help the Stoops pack up for the move to CVille.

I’ve had this conversation multiple times with her family lol. They still want Sumrall.

SMDH not so long ago they were white meat for the Gators but now they got some big britches on them huh?

I mean I kinda get it, it seems like he’s plateaued there a bit and I’m sure they want something better than a 6-8 win guy.

To me though they’re very much at risk of falling off a cliff if the next hire doesn’t work. That’s a basketball school through and through.

So much Welsh era thinking going on here. It-does-not-have-to-get-better.

UK is a bad hire away from going back to irrelevant in football. Stoops brought them the most success Ive seen in my lifetime. And not some gimmicky hefty lefty (RIP) stuff. He got the most out of that program.
