Thatās right hes a co DC.
Agree its too risky to go mew HC again. Iād feel far better with an experienced and steady hand. And someone who knows how to build a staff.
Him going to Liberty just in general makes me question his decision making.
Beyond that, I know there were some NCAA things that had come up I think when he was at Charleston Southern.
Chadwell would be the top name on my list if I thought we could get him. Heās had some minor recruiting infractions in the past and is also a bit of a dick (aka a good football coach). When I mention coaching candidates who some of our fanbase turn our nose up at, heās 100% one of them.
Chances are heās waiting out an SEC job anyway, but I would LOVE to have Chadwell here even if it was only for a couple years.
If we move on from Elliott, Iād prefer someone with some splash. With all the conference realignment weāre in danger of being left behindā¦especially with Tony B retiring.
Unless the guyās on the FBI most wanted list, Iām ok with someone who isnāt necessarily 100% a choir boy. Especially in todayās NIL/portal world.
Thatās the thing, Iād be ok with it too but am less optimistic about our administration/donors being ok with it. Think theyād genuinely rather have the moral high ground than a guy who understands how to win football games.
As Bronco said, it is an AND program. Win and do it the right way.
Anyone know what happened between Boley and Elliott, and why Elliott removed him from the sideline?
Chadwell could absolutely do that though. The difference is heās a football first guy, heās not gonna go out of his way to handicap the program but heās also gonna keep it within the rules as heās done at Coastal and Liberty.
Im just tired of hiring the nicest guy for the job. Not saying thatās why Tony got hired but can we at least get someone in here with a chip on their shoulder who isnāt afraid of talking a little shit.
Boley apparently got into it with Heffernan about something.
Under the old rules, Iād agree. But college sports is more business now than amateur athletics. Have to change with the times, or get left behind, and weāre already trailing big-time in this race.
Not saying we need to hire a sleeze, but canāt limit ourselves from looking at some good, in a search for perfection.
Just stating the facts not my preference. I donāt want a scumbag but it has been 5 years since the last bowl trip. Some of us have less seasons left to cheer for a winner than others.
I hear ya.
Ideally Iād love to find another George Welsh, or Tony Bennett/Terry Holland on the hoops side, who win, respect/appreciate academic prestige and are even better people outside of sports than on the field.
But with so many bowls out there that you only need to finish .500 to get there, thereās really no excuse for not going most years. Getting someone who can operate/excel in the current landscape needs to be more of a priority than finding the perfect candidate.
Sorry, man, that aināt it.
Staff found him, recruited him, developed him, put him into the NFL (just like his predecessor Benkert).
Last I checked, QBs are important, and recruiting and developing QBs is important for QBs.
Lots of black marks on Mendenhallās resume. QBs arenāt one of them (and they werenāt at BYU, either).
Beck got us Benkurt (played in the NFL), Perkins (played in the NFL), and Armstrong (put up record numbers with a frisbee throwing motion). Also LaNoris Sellers, who ended up at South Carolina as their QB #1.
The offense wasnāt a fluke (I wish we ran a gimmicky offense, sorta like how Tony helped establish himself in the ACC with mover blocker). The defense just became atrocious.
The defense at the end of the Bronco era was as bad as UVAās current offense in the red zone
On the plus side CTE hasnt done a fraction 9f the damage that Brent Venables has done to OU. HE might not make it through Nov at this rate.
Mr Jefferson"s University will never allow that the pearl clutching would be endless
And they putting up video game numbers again in ABQ. D is still trash can juice though.
We can take comfort in potentially not hiring the worst of the Dabo assistants! (Jeff Scott has that title by a MILE if youāre curious)
Hoo and True greatest take yet. Armstrong slang it like an frisbee. You are 1 for 1 today
Thatās rough. I thought maybe he had twisted his neck watching his man go by to sack Colandrea. I donāt know what the coach said to him, but it probably wasnāt ugly enough.
