Iām not sure Iād be too displeased with Hall if Duke Miles didnāt look like an all conference player. But damn thatās the missing piece for sure and we had him

If it werenāt Hall, Odom would have tried to get another guard or two of his level. If all it took to get Miles to decommit was another guard to get on board, he wasnāt ever staying here (as also evidenced by him bouncing from A&M after less than a week).

I was a bit perplexed watching the game, wondering where Malik was. He is not the guy. I think there will be nights when he goes off for 20-25 points, but he sadly seems like a role-playing guy. Disappointing, and maybe I will be wrong. It seems to me that ā other than our frontcourt ā the guy could be Lewis or White, with a good dose of Mallory. I donāt know if Malik doesnāt understand his role, hasnāt bought in, or both. I wonder if Jaqari should start over Malik.

I view it more as, heās unselfish and picking his spots (and games) where he is the central guy. TDR is clearly the most consistent high scorer game-to-game. But still see Thomas as the guy when we need raw scoring ability and the go-to for down the stretch creation.

I donāt see any way you could spin bringing in another experienced, Power 5 player, who is clearly a good locker room presence as a mistake. Injuries happen. Players leave. In this day and age, you need to have depth. Odom canāt have a roster of 7 players he likes and then just stop bringing in other players. That would certainly be a mistake.

Why not? We had that in hand with Miles and had Mallory. Now we have Hall and Mallory. What am I missing?

Iām tired about relitigating all of this and will be done after this. Who knows what was said behind closed doors.
However, I think a smart strategy wouldāve been to bring Duke Miles as a clear lead guard then go after a second or third year guy who is more green. Then you have the bodies you need and youāve communicated that heās your guy. Miles has exceptional stats and has shown he could be a PG first. At the time most people thought Hall made sense bc you need a pass first floor general. But you really donāt in Odomās scheme and Miles had more than enough. Odomās approach was clearly ābring in as many as you can with as much talent as you can.ā
I donāt blame Duke Miles for bailing when he did. Itās his final year and you bring in another one year seasoned guy for the same role one week later.
Anyway, itās all getting tiring and I donāt think anyone is the bad guy or clearly at fault. But I hope in future cycles they adapt as needed.

Whoās to say Miles wouldnāt have left anyway. He is currently at his 6th school. Itās not like this is a new thing for him. Bring in a bunch of guys, and let the best play. Did A&M suddenly recruit over Miles as well? Or did he just get bored?
When you get down to it, Miles decided to leave and Hall decided to stay. Whether Odom made a mistake or not is kind of irrelevant. We have the roster we have. Odomās job now is to get what he can with the roster he has.
Frankly, I donāt give a ratās ass how good Miles is or what he does. Heās not at UVA, and heās not going to be at UVA. Has no bearing on whether we have a successful season or not and no bearing on how I view Odom.

Was busy this afternoon and missed the game and I havenāt seen the score but based on scanning the posts I have to ask, how many points did we lose by?
Hall canāt play, Thomas canāt play, DeRidder canāt elevate his game beyond 20+ points, and thereās some Duke guy that quit? I didnāt know we had Duke guys, are they loaning us players?
I hate it when I miss games, so confusing.

I really feel like people are seeing things through rose colored glasses since heās the only returner. Heās gotten a decent bit of run, almost twice as much as Carrere, and heās made less of an impact. Wish it wasnāt the case but it is.
