My biggest take away is kind of simpleā¦. I thought they looked well coached and ready; everyone seemed to be on the same page for what they were doing on both offense and defense, switching, etc. I think Odom has done a great job of getting a bunch of new guys to play together in a short amount of time.
Anybody know when replay is available on accnx?
That was pretty close to total domination, shoot just a little better they might have won by 50.
Defensively they couldāve fouled less but those Rider guys love taking midrange and Odomās defense is happy to give them that. They only shot 35% from inside the arc and only gave up 12 threes and a few of those were complete chucks. Will wait until the officiating chills out to see if fouling is really gonna be a problem. Otherwise they had 8 steals and 9 blocks which is where a lot of their defensive success is gonna come from so overall Iād call that a pretty good defensive effort.
Offensively they got everything they wanted, and then missed, then got the rebound and got what they wanted again. Total domination on that end. Shooting will come, would defintely rather start 2-19 against Rider than Duke.
Iām watching it now:
Love that they caught the proud dad in the background (left pic)
Maybe the best comment Iāve seen on the internet in 2025z
Heās a unit.
Separately, texted a buddy during the game that reliably receiving, let alone capitalizing on, the post entry is so refreshing.

Thatās called the Big Smooth Special. RIP
Ceiling so much higher with Chance starting and Hall cheering.
also, appreciated De Ridderās very European exit of his first real game; applauding the crowd and hugging Odom
Hall plays like he is over the hill. Lots of savvy but the rest of it looks worn.
Five assists to one turnover ā thatās pretty good.
Hall was fine, played his role as he needed to. Even the Hall/Mallory minutes together were fine. Mallory certainly has the spark and a bright future here.
The collective 3-point and FT shooting was nauseating. Good grief. We built a brick mansion at JPJ tonight and still almost won by 40.
Offensive basketball is fun!
Main thought on watching most of the 1H and looking at the box score is that with Tillis out, we are gonna need TDR to play about 30. The Carrere / Lewis at the 4 minutes are not gonna cut it against decent competition.
Watching the replay afterwards, and my primary takeaway was the one announcer almost literally never shutting up. I hate being mean about it, but every time she talks its like a reading a sentence with 7 commas.
Virginia Menās Basketball | Virginia Wins Big in Odomās Debut
Of the Cavaliersā 15 players, only Devin Tillis and Silas Barksdale did not play Monday night. Tillis, a 6-foot-7 forward, was on crutches. He recently had knee surgery and is out indefinitely, Odom said. Barksdale, a 6-foot-9 freshman, might redshirt this season.
Itās only game one, and everyone needs to relax with the gripes and complaints. I get that everyoneās invested and wants to succeed, but a bunch of one-year rentals takes time to gel.
Defense and fluid movement are built over time and take multiple games. When I played, it took about 7ā8 games to really get a solid feel with my teammates.
My only complaint is Dalin Hall. I never want to see him with the ball late in the shot clock or being told to go score. You can just tell heās not quick footed or shifty enough. Give the rock to Chance and clear out!
On the gelling front I was actually really pleased with how much they were cheering for each other. They seem to all enjoy one another at least. Easy to do in a rout, I know, but it didnāt feel like a complete team of mercenaries.
Chance Mallory is everything we hoped he would be.
So sheās from the Cory Alexander school of broadcasting. Canāt really relate since I couldnāt watch the game. Thanks YouTube TV and Disney, bunch of greedy jerks.
