Who's staying and Who's Going

I didnt wanna say this before because I love all these kids and am impressed by everyone of them during our seasons. I personally thought Mamadi, who should go down as the most popular Hoo ever, came back from the NBA stuff and tried to implement that into his game at Uva. To his credit as the season went on he changed his focus to winning games at Virginia and not his NBA draft status. This guy is bigger than basketball after he is done playing and thats what makes him so great as a person.

That is a great point and as I look back on his play I believe you are exactly right. He was a beast for about the last 10 games. He played within himself and it was a big part of our better play during the last part of the season

Once again you nailed it. Mamadi shifted his game midway through the year and it helped spark the Hoos. That’s the delicate balance of knowing what you need to do personally and what the team needs in the moment.

Mamadi is a special kind of guy. It will be a long time before we see someone with that mix of personality and talent walk through the doors again.

If I am not mistaken, Diakite’s game began to evolve/improve when Woldetensae found his shot. Amazing what a perimeter threat will do for a big man’s game.

Tomas hitting from deep opened up a ton for Diakitie. Like most things in basketball they were symbiotic of each other.
The first half o the year it felt like Mamadi was trying to do and show everything. He was shooting from deep, midrange and trying to do a lot of face-up off the dribble stuff. He’s competent at all that but they remain aspects of his game require improvement. During that stretch all his numbers were down and his turnovers were up. The second half of the season he got back to more interior play, and was more deccisive with the ball. His touches became catch and act, and his turnovers went down and his productivity increased.

All that said, a lot of that interior play would not have been possible without Tomas clicking from deep. Kihei also became a deadly threat off the dribble during that time, and Huff grew into his own as well.

Wake just announced that Steve Forbes is their new mens basketball coach. Based on what he’s accomplished at East Tennessee State, that seems like a great hire. Would love to see Wake return to the top third of the ACC (but not above UVA, of course). I like Wake a lot more than some of our other ACC rivals.

Forbes is a character. If nothing else, he’ll be an entertainment upgrade.

Obviously very early as the news just came out, but is the postponement of the lottery and combine expected to have an impact on Huff’s deadline to withdraw?
