Posted 9 minutes ago on Twitter. That’s another '22 I like…
Who’s next? My guess would be Nunez. But, I could see Tony holding off on PG offers because we have contacted quite a few and may of not zeroed in on his top target.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nunez get one but don’t expect to see very many go out.
Congratulations Justin and Isaac! Would love to see you flying off screens for the Hoos!
Curious to see the first front court player we offer. Will it be a center or a bouncy forward?
Can’t wait for @HoozGotNext blog on these, the significance and the timing
Keels is gone me thinks. Duke insiders are switching from “he’s leaning NOVA” to now “Hes 100% coming here”. Jeremy Roach likely to be a 3-4 year player and the need for shooting, after their lack of shooting so far AJ Griffin/Paolo aren’t 3 point shooters. The day Kaufman committed to Purdue I saw a lot of similarities between us and Indiana (Kaufman was eventually down to UVA and Purdue even though Indiana believed they were the leader/right there in it). I think HGN made a good point in that we lost a lot of our appeal through the physical progress he made this summer. I think the word HGN throws around is “business decision” a lot and this is probably one of those.
Thank God I hopped off the Keels and Reid train like a month ago. I am SUPER HAPPY we are making these offers now.
Your probably right, but if Keels can’t see our need for him after watching our SG the first few games…
I think he sees Casey Morsell being a junior (dude has just begun his sophomore year still can improve A LOT), Jabri in the wings, Murphy as someone who can play the 3 after this year with curtis, Taine (who is a stud) and McCorkle fighting for pt, and Tony’s want to play Kihei alongside reece and asks himself “Where is the opportunity to showcase myself”. Business Decision.
It’ll be fun beating him and duke in 2023 when he finally gets some playing time.
Again, agree, but you just listed a bunch of dudes that as of yet are not proven or reliable scorers
Really really hope you are wrong. A Duke team with Keels and Baldwin around Banchero will be a problem.
At Duke there is no one. Wendel Moore isn’t a threat. DJ Steward might be gone but that’s it. At Nova there is literally no one if Justin Moore leaves early for that 2nd round money.
Agreed on this. I think we have taken for granted that scoring skill translates super easily to this level.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Keels shift to UVA again for the opportunity that is more apparent now than 1 month ago. However, CTB wouldn’t offer McKneely if he were concerned that it may effect Keels. I would say that we would still take Keels but if McKneely were to commit, I think we are done with Keels. I think McKneely and Taylor will have a decision soon. At least by spring. Just a hunch. If not, transfers will be added to the mix. Things will be different due to the combination of Covid, transfer rule changes, and CTB’s reformed offer process!
Factor in the possibility of transfers.
I don’t thinks Keels is worried about any of those guys to be honest.
Not worried about the players. Maybe could be worried about the short leash. He sees Morsell, his family friend, get benched for one defensive miscue, never getting the consistent on the court time to develop his game and confidence and kihei clark get 30 minutes a game. The “freshmen dont play over experienced players” is not entirely true (its bullshit in my opinion) but there are some things to it optically. Keels probably views himself as the type of player who develops more with on the court time, which is a very real chunk of players coming out of high school. Some don’t develop as much with a short leash and “overcoaching” (again I need to re-emphasize this is NOT my view at all but this is how others I have talked to outside UVA fandom see us and there is absolutely some truth to it). This is something we just have to live with. One day we will land a 5 star who fits us perfectly (fits into our culture and what we do, and on the flipside we fit into their plan with an open slot for time). But my gut feeling is this is not that situation in 2021.
This is all hilarious if somehow Keels chose UVA, hence tony wanting these offers to go public now and us wanting more shooting guards LOL. Either way idc about Keels he has had two years to decide now. He can be SPECIAL for us but there is always someone out there who can be special for us. Nothing is changing and we are not a 1 player program. We should not be on hiatus as a program for one recruit EVER.
I don’t think they’ve been told anything definite by Keels if that’s what people are wondering but it’s possible. It’s just freaking December. These have been sitting on the desk approved for about 5 months I think.
I agree with this, and apologies for misunderstanding your earlier point.
I think the Morsell leash is mindnumbing personally. He’s never had the opportunity to play through mistakes. I worry that this leash is going to cause future issues. Obviously have no insight to how he looks in practice, but I would prefer the roster gets more athletic with Morsell types.
