As a benchmark: Massey considers us the #34 team in the country (good!) and yet has us favored in only 3 ACC contests and predicts we’ll go 7-11 in conference (bad!). That tells you about the buzz saw. It’s also partly because we got a tough draw this year: our home-and-aways are against NCSU, VPI, UNC (all top 10 teams) and Duke (25). We really have to win all the 50-50ish games.
It does remind me of how the men’s ACC has been for most of my life but no longer is. Many years, “7-9” or “6-8” meant solid bubble team.
Pretty crazy y’all are talking about if this team has a chance to make the tournament! If this is still a conversation in February Coach Mox deserves national COTY!
I think making the tournament is a bit of a fever dream right now given the ACC. But It’s at least possible which is more than we could have said at any point in the last 3 years.
If we make the Women’s NIT this year it would be an EXPONENTIAL improvement compared to last season.
As others in this thread have said I do think we are going to have a coming down to earth moment (the acc womens bball is the opposite of ACC men’s bball) and we will probably be blown out once or twice or several times. But I am already blown away by the performance and by the culture change.
Yeah, I just saw that after I tried to go to the ESPN app to watch and didn’t see it. Darn it. I think the CAA has a deal with that terrible outfit. Would hate it if my team was in that conference. JMU did the right thing going to the Sun Belt for multiple reasons.
What jumps out from the box score is Mir McLean with the 22 & 17 double double. She grabs everything. She also had 9 offensive rebounds while W&M as a team had only 8 lol.
I may be behind the power curve here, but I peeked at the women’s NET rankings just to see where UVa stood and noticed their metrics seem different… doesn’t look like it looks at quadrants, just home, away, neutral and whether the opponent is considered DIV1…
I think the NET is calculated similarly, but the selection committee for the women’s tournament just doesn’t use quadrants as a way to organize and sort teams based on their NET ranking.
