⛹ Ryan Dunn - Official Thread

You can pretty much see the gears turning in his head on those 3s. Need it to become effortless rather than cerebral

Although it does make me optimistic he could take 3-4 catch and shoot 3s a game this year

3-4 kind of a lot. I want that catch, be a threat, one dribble and yam on everyone like he is working on (smartly) in the video

Also his passing on the move still no bueno

Edit: number 30 last year for Duke took between 3-4 threes per game at 28percent…

McKneely took 4 a game while playing 20 minutes. I assume Dunn will play 30 MPG this year so 3 a game would be shooting half as often as IMac which I don’t think is insane. But it depends if he can shoot the 3 without looking like he is trying to do calculus in his head at the same time

Hahaha. In the sort same vein if and when he can catch and go right by his man and yam on everyone hoo cares about how many 3s he takes

This I found funny. Fresh as a fourth year in 92-93 basically exact same stats as Imac (as a first year!) but I played more at the 1 than he did so maybe my assists slighlty better

I think Imac is too good at basketball to “only” be a 3 point specialist in college

What I appreciate about Ryan is that his family already has one big leaguer who knows the kind of work ethic it takes to get to thr professional ranks. No doubt his parents are implementing that same support/strategy and lessons learned to guide him to the next level.

They are probably telling him- “Look, you are one BIG summer workout regiment away from being an impact player in the country, let’s get after it”.

Dunn already has natural ability, which just needs some refinement.

Yeah he does seem to have some “happy feet” as well, which someone needs to point out.

From the Givony article on Reece returning: Virginia's Reece Beekman to return to school for senior season - ESPN

Rising sophomore Ryan Dunn will also enter next year a projected first-round pick and looks primed for a De’Andre Hunter type breakout campaign that could catapult him into lottery consideration.

College athletics is elite man. 20 years ago, guys would be drinking beers in the off-season with their boys

interesting that NBA teams are already giving Givony this feedback on Dunn. The dude averaged like 2 points a game. all for it but he has work to do

With Reece back, Dunn’s development has a huge impact on the rest of the rotation. Not just offensively but defensively. If he can guard 3-5 at an above average level it unlocks so many options around him. You can go anything from spacing with Rohde-Groves as the 3/4 to lockdown defense with Bond and Minor as the 3/5.

5s Dunn can’t guard:

  • Bacot
  • PJ Hall
  • DJ Burns
  • Post? (but maybe yes?)
  • (I haven’t seen the frosh on Lville who decomitted from Minny)
  • DeAndre Williams if he gets a waiver
  • Jesse Edwards? (but maybe yes?)

5s he can guard:

  • Everyone else

3s and 4s he can guard:

  • All of them, unless there’s some old school throwback hoss-like 4 I’m unaware of

How bout Dukes number 30?

Flip? Flip will have nightmares about being guarded by Dunn. I actually kind of knock Duke down a peg not getting a true big like Udeh

That one. Dunn can check PJ Hall

One nice side benefit of Reece coming back…they don’t need Dunn at guard defensively… If he hadn’t come back I think you would have seen it a lot more. Not that he can’t be effective there but you’re throwing away a big chunk of the offensive advantage by having him as a guard in the lineup.

I think people who only saw Dunn play this past year are going to be pretty surprised to find that he’s an offensive weapon. He was just a freshman trying to stay in his role. Defense and energy got him on the court so that’s what he focused on.
